Medicine for These Times with Beth Weinstein

Brad Adams, PhD, is the Founder and CEO of the Los Angeles Medicinal Psychedelics Society (LAMPS), an organization dedicated to integrating psychedelic medicines into mainstream mental and spiritual health practices since 2015. His passion and commitment have enabled LAMPS to become a leading provider of education on the responsible use of psychedelic medicines and training for licensed therapists and psychedelic healing providers. As such, LAMPS is the host of the many safe spaces in Los Angeles that serve as the ‘set and setting’ for bravely transparent conversations about not only the light but also the dark sides of psychedelic medicine use.

Dr. Adams received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from USC and spent 18 years as a researcher in oncological sciences at the UCLA Medical Center. Today, as the guiding force behind LAMPS, he is dedicated to advancing the organization's mission to promote responsible, evidenced-based, and best-use practices for using psychedelic medicines in human wellness. In 2018, he served as Chair of the Los Angeles Psychedelic Science (LAPSS) planning committee, organizing the first major psychedelic conference in Los Angeles since the 1960s. Despite the pandemic's challenges in 2021, Dr. Adams successfully orchestrated a virtual psychedelic conference,LAMPSS, fostering a sense of community during a time of isolation.

Currently, Brad is focused on the upcoming LAMPS Psychedelic INSIGHTS Symposium, scheduled to be held again on the prestigious campus of UCLA on October 19th and 20th. He is also developing training programs for psychedelic sitters/guides and seeking research collaborators to study the efficacy of psychedelic medicines, such as DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, and Ayahuasca, in treating Alzheimer's Disease. Additionally, he envisions opening a private prison where qualifying inmates can benefit from psychedelic treatments, combined with practices like Vipassana meditation and dietary changes, to promote healing and reduce recidivism rates.
