A podcast with Dean Sage and Jack Kirven where they explore the intersection of oracle decks and chakras, using their original decks to create new insights. Dean's deck is a modern translation of the Tarot that removes gender-norms to reveal the deeper, non-gendered meaning of the cards. Jack's four decks play with the traditional chakra system, examining the way they intersect, rather than using them in isolation. The show allows inspiration to arise from the intersection of all decks using both intuition and chance. Dean pulls his cards as the Tarot reader does, while Jack relies on dice to see which cards his decks will offer up. The result is a reading and a reminder that uses the language of chakras and the diversity of the Tarot.

×We navigate the world based on how we perceive it and what we know and learn from it. But our emotions and instincts are a filter, and we must be aware of them as we process the information that comes our way. Sometimes those experiences root themselves within us as shame, and this impacts our choices for the worse. Being free of shame releases energy once used for defense to be allocated instead toward growth. Making a safe space (both internally and literally) provides a respite, but guard against guarding so much that no one can climb the walls around your garden. Otherwise a transformational experience is not actually able to affect change in your life. Be aware of whether compasses that are externally set to true north haven’t been substituted for dials that can be set by biased hands. And finally, recognize that the safe space you built isn’t only for you, so remember to include features that benefit the community of people you love.…

In the vast universe, things move at incredible speeds and yet take millions of years to reach each other. Like that cosmic ocean, we too are together and apart, separated and yet emanating into each other’s lives, seen through the static of each other we must filter down what we are seeing. We can’t look for what’s perfect, we have to look for what we see, and filter that down into our lives and ourselves. We can gain insight at times, leaping above the surface of the ocean and taking in new things, new ideas. But we return again down into our heart and our connection with others. Through willful action we play out those things we have learned and know. We are called to action to reflect the glow we have taken from the universe, or the seeds we have gestated within us. Sending the light back out, but filtered so that we are increasing the good and leaving things better than we found them. Finally we are reminded that we are part of something greater, and that we have to filter ourselves in that greatness so that we are being authentic and improving what we interact with. We have the strongest effect when we share our heart, our lives, our experiences so that others can learn and live with us.…

We are what we are, but we share that through what we say. We shape ourselves through what we say. At times, we need to one reminded that what we say creates what we are in that moment. And that can cause fear. But we are released from that fear if we allow ourselves to be. Someone in our life is giving us joy and good juju. We need to connect with them and share our energy that they have helped of fuel. We must be aware of the energy and purpose from which others are sharing their ideas and opinions. It comes down to doing what needs doing now. All of the actions we can take need deliberate and practiced hands. It’s not just about sharing with others who bring us joy, but purposefully planting in their lives so that they can grow. When we are in harmony, when we are tangled together like vines or waves. We may be a single drop from a cosmic ocean, but we are the congruence of those we are with and the harmony of the interaction of those lives.…

Dean and Jack start with an immediate reaction to the card suggesting that morality and ethics are set and stable. That with our instincts we simply know what is right and true. But we are reminded that even thought what is, still is, what will be is still coming. That even though we have made this action, this decision, this moral outpouring, we must still work to balance it with our own internal compass and evaluate the effects that though tempered by our context, are still true and real and must be dealt with. We are both perfect, and can still be better. Take from others, learn from them, even when you despise or hate them, what can they show you about yourself and the morality and ethics you are making for yourself. Don’t get stuck here. Your journey is one of joys and griefs, but you can’t be bogged down by things that would anchor you to the ground. You are given joy along the journey, and that is why you take it. With this contemplation, sit for a moment with the heat of your flames of action. Let the inspiration that dances in them fill you with ideas and creativity, that which truly makes us human.…

At the start of the year, we get the reminder to speak our emotions in a way that seeks maturity through communication and honesty, authenticity. When we do share, it creates ripples both in ourselves and those we are speaking to. We need to allow those ripples to flow and give time for them to take shape and disperse. We are reminded not to just jump in and flounder, but to take time and consider, partly by taking a pause for something relaxing and introspective, like a bubble bath. From there we can contemplate that which might divide our heart or our soul, and gives us a sense of fear at the unknown. Because when we are at peace and contemplation, we can allow ourselves to dance above the water of the ocean, to reach moments of enlightenment or great understanding. Speak boldly so that you may find maturity and settle the dichotomy in your soul.…
When what we say is influenced by what we see of the world, we are like a boat being influenced by the winds, the emanation of others as they buffet our sails. Some push us ahead, some work against us. Some cross us and force us to reposition or take our sails down completely. We then are reminded that when we do still our waters, we should do so with intention. That doing it out of fear, fear of the new or unknown, leads us to a place where we have no grounding, nowhere to anchor ourselves as we work to understand and ingest this new information that challenges our worldview. Sometimes the world emits toxic sludge into our waters. Venomous, it seeps into us and we are faced with its consequences. Like a factory spoiling the river, we must navigate around it. And sometimes it is us who spills that sludge from our own emotional factory. How are we handling the production, and the sludge it can create? For we are the director as much as we are the orchestra. What we will can shape the lives and actions of others, just as their will can play out on us. In the end, we are the ever-burning flame, and all action, all power, comes from within us. We have the power to shape our actions and the world around us.…

You are a vault that touches heaven and earth, a cathedral that is a sacred and whole space, into which you are deserving of a respect that should fill you root to rafters. As the wind and storm gathers realize that you deserve to feel the joy of riding that wind. You deserve a moment of happiness that fills your sacred space, the laughter of yourself and others because you are not alone in this. Your space is filled with the instruments that can give sound life, that can fill your space with melodies, though which you choose will affect what you feel. You give voice, air, life to your emotions, so choose wisely, pick carefully, feel deeply. For these storms flow from you, not in spite of you. You are the source of the joy and despair that fills your heart, and you can tame the storms within when you allow yourself to fall into the wind’s embrace. Don’t find drama in the storm, don’t feed your resonance with ill fitting songs. Wooden structures reverberate and amplify sound, just as your sacred space takes form and reverberates and amplifies what you fill it with. Like a wooden shrine, cared for through time, you are constantly being refitted and replaced to remain whole and healthy. Guard those relationships which allow you to feel whole and connected. Be shaped by your hand, not by others.…
We begin with a strong reminder to stop, pause, and listen to the intuition that is rising from your molten core, an alarm ringing in your depths. Something needs attention. But first you must still your emotions. Do not let fear roil them and cause them to heave and beat against you. Still them with intention and let them settle so you can hear the message coming up to you from below. There is a connection between your power and your inner sight. Something that allows you to attain a spiritual view of the actions you need to take. It even reminds you that in community you are better, made stronger and more whole by those who can attune to your intuition and bring insights of their own. Because deep down, you are the master of your being, you are the prime mover of your world. You have the power to create the very elements you need to solve this problem, to deal with the alarm that is ringing within you. But to do so, you must strike out into the darkness, your light the only thing to guide you. Plant each flame firmly and start to define a path forward. You have the tools, you have the power, you just need to start with action.…

Revisiting the concept of the obelisk, we begin by discussing what is engraved upon our psyches. Despite the deep etching, these stories can still be adjusted. Nothing is permanent, and we also have the option of creating an entirely new surface. The idea of giving away abundance becomes a guiding principle, especially when it helps to clarify the way in which we create legacies while also avoiding mindless gathering or accumulating. One of the practices that allows us to grow and evolve is a specific mindfulness about words. What we say has a tendency to fulfill itself, almost like magic spells, so we must be careful about the words we use to tell our stories. Just the process of purging property and ideas can itself be a regenerating process that allows a new version of ourselves to emerge. We close with a reminder that regardless of our desires, change is constant and inevitable. It is better to embrace the practices that invigorate our various metamorphoses.…
Cycles are not circles, they’re spirals, moving inward and upward. The Celestial was eager to come out of the deck, just as we are eager to begin a journey. Sometimes cycles happen suddenly, unexpectedly. The journey starts from any point that you choose or discover. Let the journey become absorbed into you. They don’t stay superficial, the become part of who you are, you heal around them. Remain nimble as you heal, learn and evolve. There’s a difference between bravery and courage. What is knocked down is not ended. Sometimes life washes everything away. Consider where you’re building and what you’re building. Learn from past mistakes to be more evolved as you grow. We ourselves are the filters for our life and the information that flows through it. You need to feel discomfort while you are learning. You have to get out of your own way to be open to experiencing contradiction. In the shadow water, too much is happening, too many people are splashing around. You have to return to deep water, to stable emotions so you can take the time and space to find more information, better clarity. Part of aging is experiencing these deeper currents and finding ways to bravely engage with what you see. Being uncomfortable means you have a chance to take in something new, to deepen your journey, to reconnect with past lessons and find new material within them.…
A familiar face appears with root touching crown and we are reminded of the obelisk that sits so grounded and yet reaches toward the heavens. We have the opportunity to rebalance ourselves, to connect root to crown and fill ourselves with the positive and balanced energy of a free-flowing system. Right on cue we rise to the second chakra and remind ourselves that we are the source of our emotions, and that we are not moved by them, but are the one doing the moving. Next we consider how we exchange energy with others as we work toward balance, how to not inflict ourselves on others, but to exchange and improve ourself and others at the same time. We return to the root as the 10 of seeds shows us that our seeds, our creations and creativity will continue on for generations, and that we must be in balance for those seeds to grow roses and not weeds. To cap it off, we rise to the 5th and 6th chakras and look at how we interact with others and how that affects what we see and say. The reading was a patient one that laid out a path to balance. And it is a cyclical journey, but a spiral moving ever inward and upward.…
Here we find a bookended reading: Number 43 of 49 from Jack’s system opens and closes the reading, but in different manifestations of the concept. The idea threading through the cards is that we live an existential paradox. We are simultaneously so very important, and yet so very insignificant. But this is empowering in both directions: In the physical present, we can take responsibility for our actions as we hone our practice of sharing goodness. But within the cosmic context, we can also understand that we do not have to be perfect to be effective. The reading affirms that we have the innate ability to use our gifts, but that doing so may require a death of the ego to allow our legacy to fulfill its best potential.…
The sassiest of Jack’s four decks jumps right in with a reminder to be curious and proactive about learning and discovery, given that this is part of the ongoing process of evolving as a person. Dean pulls next, and the reading segues into the idea that this journey of growth may seem fraught with peril – what if what I learn undermines everything I am and know? Good! It probably needs to. But once the study and practice transitions into actionable skill, it is very important to share the wisdom with others. Not only does the giving nourish you even more, it gives the world an opportunity to benefit as well. Something to consider in the sharing: When is it important that you take credit for the effort, and when is it more productive to remain anonymous? We are filters, and people may be reflexively closed to truth if they happen to have disagreed with us in the past. Transparency and honesty are not exactly the same, so deploy them mindfully.…
The reading opens with a reminder that having honest conversations are an important part of maturing personally, intellectually, and socially. Source of Seeds. Planting these ideas mindfully in rows is similar to researching and deeply understanding concepts, and allows us to be able to keep those rows free of weeds when others’ poorly chosen words scatter misinformation into our field. It is important to remember that not everyone is willing or able to eat the fruits of our labor, so when we find our ideas being inappropriately attacked, it is vital to pour our efforts where they will be effective. Not everyone’s fields have fertile soil.…
We begin with the shaping of a living plant, the pruning of wood and leaves to help create boundaries, to choose better people and define ourselves in a way that gives our love where it is deserved. As you delve into your emotions and the intersection with your heart, you must allow your waters, your metal to carry you home, back to safety and security. Sometimes the pruning is done by others, and there is ache and pain in their wake. When you are rooted again, you can reach up for the heavens, transmitting your legacy as vibrations in the now. Messages and experiences that others can receive from you as they are happening. Wonder and joy you thought lost are just waiting to be remembered, to be carried with you, leaving pain behind and bringing joy forward again. It then comes full circle, the intersection of your heart and your emotions, a reminder that even though we are injured by our shaping, we must still grow and shape ourselves, carrying the scars but living in the now, fully integrated and becoming what we are meant to be.…
This reading started differently with Dean’s deck being very talkative, setting the stage of a ship returning home on the tide, laden with knowledge and ideas where upon you can set out on a journey of creativity and action. There is an immediate reminder to bring this into a practical, real sense, not to leave it in the mind’s eye, but to bring it down to reality and put it out there. That means there can be failure, and that you should fail. Fail to find your voice, fail to find your audience, fail to create what you see. Only through failure can you bring that which you see into that which is real. You are your own source of power, it lies within you, and it always has. The ever-burning flame is what fuels your creativity, your power to do, to make. What you have in your mind you can bring into reality, with time, patience and your power. Finally, shut-up and listen! You’ve got messages deep within you, just let them rise up. Your emotions and your throat chakra will connect and you will speak truth and knowledge. Be the Oracle, speak deep truths with your work. Create contemplation. Embrace intuition.…
Dean and Jack are started with the image of a boiling pot, simmering over an open flame where metal meets fire. We found ourselves with a kitchen witch considering what they make, how they make it and if it’s right for them to make. They have a responsibility to choose well. Then the seeker of waves comes with their potential energy and a message to trust the dreams that rise up from your depths. When you are aligned with what you are putting into the world, you can allow your imagination to be filled with what springs from your core. All of this then becomes part of the towering cathedral that is your body and your soul. The potion the Kitchen Witch brews fills the whole chakral bridge with expansion and delight. But like the sage who sits beside the road and waits, they too must sit in peace and find the hardest truth, admitting that they need help. It is a community coming together to cook and share that powers the Kitchen Witch. Finally we are settled down and embraced by the connection of heart to voice, hearing and receiving love, telling and showing love. Like a breeze through the trees wood touches air and is embraced by its passing.…
Dean and Jack are met with a ghost from the previous episode, the same card as before, but with a new meaning, a new message. When you are impaled by an event that rocks you to your core, you must pause and remember that it is does not define you. B another card showed its face again, the release from shame. Don’t pick it up, don’t let it in, it is not part of you. To carry it will only claim what is not yours in the first place. In these moments of trauma and pause, take things slow, take things small, do it one piece at a time. You have three beacons to follow. Set them and let your own power and light guide you. Trust yourself, be careful about whose advice you take. Trust your own knowledge, your own vision of truth that comes from within and without. To be human is to have pain, to have trauma. If you work with fire, you will get burned. But that is a natural part of life. Not to be feared or avoided, but to be understood and eventually embraced.…
Dean and Jack finally get a reading that starts with the lower chakras, where root and sacral chakras meet, the dance of earth and metal which forms beautiful works of art. This groundedness is then challenged by the imbibing of the universe and the projection of the heart, sending out that sense of self and security to those around us. With all of this beautiful energy and effort, we are quickly reminded that it is our power which drives any of our actions, and that shame is the barrier to using that power to create these emanations. Our hearts are marked by the passing of time, the passing of friends, the passing of love and family. Those marks are not bad or good, they are shapes that influence the way we focus that cosmic energy. It is because of them, not in spite of them that we still love, we still have peace, and we can project joy. Finally, there is a simple reminder that none of these came with ease, without sorrow and grief, and without the act of falling down again and again and again. It is because we rise that we can soar.…

Dean and Jack begin with the impossible connection, the crown touching the crown, the universe touching itself and yet here in it we are. The idea of dynamic balance being better than static perfection. That within our connection to something divine we are actively striving to be. The reading became one of external understanding and internal soul work. First it is okay to simply be still. You don’t always have to be doing something to be something. Next that what you experience of the world is also grounded deeply within you. Like water molding wet clay, or seeping down into the earth. From there you have a nourished empty plot of land into which you may plant seeds and see growth, an existential moment of nothing and becoming. To end there was the final reminder that what you feel and what you are connect at the core of your being. That you need to to feel yourself as yourself, but you also need to feel your soul as your inner child, ready for comfort, ready for a hug.…

Dean and Jack have another very high energy reading, the intersection of third eye and crown to set the stage. A profession of wanting to see more, to understand more, to gain insight into that which is beyond us. Curiosity influences the way we see the world. Dean’s deck then reminded us to find ourselves within ourselves, as the deep source of waves, the water from which all emotions flow. With ourselves conscious of our being within the context of the great ether, we have a truth to speak to the universe but one that collaborates with others, forming a wave of understanding within an ocean of connection. Which is beautifully summed up in the idea of the first ripple, the very first movement that connects and resonates within all of us. Finally the reading comes to a close with the understanding of how the heart and third eye work together to find collaboration with others, to connect us to the greater idea, the greater truth.…

Dean and Jack are immediately greeted by the idea of balance between self and the universe, an intersection of the crown and the root that speaks to cathedrals reaching high above us, still grounded and yet aspiring to be with the ether above. And then the idea of stillness and celebration. A pause on the journey that is a place to reflect, to dance and sing, to be whole and focused purely on right now. All this while the sky above us sings to the heavens, prayers that rise up like smoke and fill the sky with dancing colors. But in all this above and below, there is a call to balance, to actively sink down so that we can rise up. From that balance the truth can be found as our eyes open to the light around us and the dawning of the morning, there is pure joy in seeing things as they truly are.…
Dean and Jack struggle to find meaning in this reading. We love learning, especially from the wisdom of others. But that wisdom is not always easy to ingest, to understand and to bring into action. Sometimes it’s hard to open our eyes to the truth of what we’re experiencing. Truth itself is hard, not always what we want it to be, and not always able to be grasped. Like the majesty of two stars orbiting each other, sometimes truth is so big it can’t be known, only experienced. But we have the strength within to encounter these things, to interact with them. To let them wash over us and be part of us. Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is stand up and say “I don’t know.” But we do have the heart to show others what we have learned. To be the source of learning, the unseen pathways through the world that others can follow. Ultimately, what’s true and what’s known are not always the same thing, but trying to interact with them is the journey we must all take.…

Dean and Jack start with confronting jealousy and describe the process of washing clean of these emotions as a way of redirecting wasted energy inward toward one’s own growth. Jealousy is the combination of emotions and connection turned into an out of balance negative focus. Instead we need to name it and learn from it. Dancing on the shoulders of the one we so focused. Step 1: Wash away your jealousy and become clean at your core. Step 2: Just do. It’s time to take that action that you’ve been saying you should, but never have. Get that fire back inside where it belongs and fire up your kiln. It’s time for action. Step 3: Trust the deep intuition and creativity that flows from your root up through your body. In the end, find gratitude for the person you had jealousy about. Thank them, specifically and intentionally. With that you are free.…

Dean and Jack look at how important it is to constantly refine oneself. The brain ages, the body ages, our spiritual self must age and grow as well, constantly refining itself. Listen as much as you speak, play both sides of the board, let others disagree. It is only through the interaction, the intentional interaction with others that you can grow and refine yourself. Some are better at some things, some are worse, you must challenge yourself to grow, not just to win. Sometimes you have to still yourself, not allowing emotions to erupt and cause you to act out of fear. We are gravity babies, the stillness precedes the action, and you must be intentional about that action. There is deep information in others that warms and supports us from without so that we can feel the heat needed within. Heat changes things, it changes us. Not all heat is comfortable, but through heat we reach change. I love touches I see, the heart and the third eye. Be aware of who is feeding you information, who you are honing yourself against. What are you allowing into yourself, what are you challenging yourself against?…

Dean and Jack explore how the diffusion of energy is a way of sharing spiritual wealth with those who surround us, love us, and interact with us. Share without sacrificing, receive without taking. To do this you have to be aware of your resources and your needs. You don’t own the winds and the storms that come and go, storms that water the land but also upheave things in their wake. It is not yours to fight for them. Be aware of whether you are at the top of the wave, or the bottom, and be intentional about how you navigate. The universe will send messages through the emanations of others, through their piercing light, but you must be intentional about receiving them, being open to them. The messages of the universe, the emanation of others, is a process. To be intentional is a process. We refine our ability to interact in a healthy manner with other people. The more we learn, the better we can act. Once we understand intention and the way that the emanations of others interact with our own, we can be the source of the storm, the calm center from which all winds blow. Taking in only what we need, and handing out only want is needed.…
