Vicki Sokolik refuses to be an Ostrich. Her son brought to her attention the crisis of unhoused youth — youth unhoused, not living with a parent/guardian, and not in foster care — in America, and she has been fighting to support this vulnerable population every since. Most active in Tampa Bay, Florida, Vicki is the founder and CEO of the nonprofit Starting Right, Now, which removes barriers for unaccompanied homeless youth to cultivate long-term well-being and self-sufficiency. She is also the author of the new book, “If You See Them: Young, Unhoused, and Alone in America.” Vicki Sokolik joined host Jay Ruderman to discuss the many ways unhoused youth fall through the cracks in our society, how her organization helps them, and also how to build trust with people who could use your help. Are you a working mom who is stressed out by trying to find time to fit it all in? Do you wish that you could be more present with your children? Desperate for time to think about what you need but don’t ever get there? Financial pressure keeping you stuck in this cycle? I am thrilled that you are here! This is the podcast for moms who are managing it all. Build your resilience so that you can overcome the overwhelm and be more productive at work and present at home. Learn healthy habits that will boost your productivity and decrease your stress so that you can balance a job you love and a family you love even more. Hey, I’m Charlotte - wellbeing coach, mum and wife who works because I love my job. I was living the chaotic, distracted life of working a full day, while also managing the emotional and mental load of being a mum - trying to make sure that everyone’s needs were met, while forgetting about my own. I was tired of feeling the ’mom guilt’ of having a job I love knowing that it took emotional energy away from my family. I finally realised that if I was going to enjoy my work and my journey of motherhood, I needed to set boundaries and make choices that would make me feel more in control, healthier and happier so that I could be the coach and the mum I wanted to be. I created a resilience plan that fits ME. A way of being that allows me to ride the waves of life with calm, peace and confidence so that I can focus better, be present and enjoy the moment while also finding some me time in amongst the noise. And I am ready to share it with you! If you’re ready to feel less stressed, be more organised and productive at work so you can be more present and patient at home and in the relationships that are most dear to you, then this podcast is for you! So, put away your laptop, close the bathroom door and let’s dig in!

As a working mom with a career you love and a home that you want to give your best to, you carry so much of the mental and emotional load of life at both places. And sometimes all you want is for someone to do what you ask of them. But when you do finally ask someone to help you, nobody listens! ‘Are their ears painted on?’ is something I often wander around muttering to myself! It is so frustrating to feel like you are not being listened to or not being heard, whether this is at work or at home. In this conversation, I offer a few reasons why people might not be listening (explanations, NOT excuses!) and three ways that you can be more sure that you will be listened to and heard so that you can get the help you need and the results you want from those around you. Can you remember when you had spark in your life? A time when you weren’t feeling the mom guilt you feel when you are trying to do everything, are stressed and overwhelmed but still seem to be failing? Maybe you still do have that spark but its just a bit dimmer? Or maybe it is shining bright! Wherever you are, listen in to this episode! Leigh Rose tells us all about why she thinks people have lost their spark and what you can do to get it back in this calm, peaceful interview where she is vulnerable about her journey into self-love and what she does to make sure that she keeps her spark and helps others to do the same. Your attention is a most wonderful gift you can give to those around you and to yourself. It has a huge impact on your relationships and on your performance but it is also incredibly fragile. We are so easily distracted and our attention can be broken by the quickest glance at something else! In this episode, we look at the three systems of attention and how they function to support one another and to support you as you go through your day, engaging with your work, engaging with those around you and engaging with yourself. As a working mom, where you put your attention and how well you are able to keep it there can impact your stress, the amount of guilt you feel (because you will be so much more focused and present) and how much you can get done. Sound like a win? I think so!
