African Americans have the highest HIV infection rates in the United States. African Americans only make up 12% of the population, but almost half of the new HIV cases are African Americans. These numbers are very disproportionate and because HIV is such a taboo subject in the African American community many people are not getting the message. International AIDS Activist, Hydeia Broadbent, shared her thoughts after reading “The Safe Sex Kit”; “I think it will help more people think about HIV/AIDS and STDs in their sexual relationships and also think about practicing safer sexual activities.” HIV education and prevention is not only Dangerous Lee’s job, it is also her passion.
