How do you bring all the ladybugs to the garden? Well, I’ll tell you one thing: the solution is NOT to buy them. (No judgement if you have.) I used to buy ladybugs and release them with my kids, and in less than an hour, every single little pollinator would have disappeared. So trust me when I say this is a waste of time and money. Instead of introducing ladybugs that come from afar, you can attract tons of ladybugs that live nearby, so they come and live in your garden. In this episod, I’ll tell you how to attract lots of ladybugs and how to ensure they stick around for the long haul. Half of American adults are taking some kind of vitamin or supplement, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. That’s probably why the global market is expected to reach 250 billion USD by 2032! Instead of each of us spending hundreds of dollars on pills, we can replace pretty much every single one with vegetables pulled from our gardens. Imagine stepping outside and picking the nutrients your body is craving. In this episode, I’ll show you the most popular vitamins and supplements people are buying and how you can replace them with whole foods from your garden. Because whole foods 🥦 still beat pills 💊 every single time. Before I started gardening, I was addicted to food and struggled with a very low self image. It wasn’t until I traveled overseas that I saw how growing fresh food can change the way you eat, the way you interact with nature, and the entire rhythm of your day. Taking up gardening changed the way I ate, the way I moved my body, and the way I felt about myself. It literally changed my whole life. In this episode, I tell you my 10 “hacks” for living a healthier lifestyle that I learned from gardening. These lessons are not about being skinny or having a perfect body. They’re about how you FEEL, how much energy you have to get through your day. They’re not part of a fad or a diet. They’re a lifestyle, and they can change your life too. Head’s up: I talk a lot about 💩 in this episode, not to be offensive or crude. Your gut just plays a huge part in being healthy. Speaking of, watch the video I made about how gardening can help you poop: https://youtu.be/oI77BW8A-18 Thanks for being a part of Gardenary! March marks the beginning of the gardening season for many of us. Even so, planting in March can be tricky as the weather transitions from winter to spring. Here are my top 5 recommendations for what to plant in each climate—cold, mild, and warm. Get ready for an overflowing spring garden and lots of harvests coming very soon! NOTE: You’re in a cold climate if your last frost date is at least 60 days away (ex. Chicago), a mild climate if your last frost date is later this month or in April (ex. Nashville), and a warm climate if you’ve already passed or are very close to your last frost date (ex. Houston). If you have trouble pooping, then you need a garden. Yep, we’re actually going there 💩 today on the podcast because so many of us have trouble GOING. In this video, learn how the garden can make pooping easier and healthier. There are so many factors at play when you have gut issues: living in an overly sanitized world, eating poorly, experiencing too much stress, breaking your routines, not exercising, not sleeping, and so on. Here are 5 ways that having a garden can help you move things along: Getting your hands dirty (in the soil, that is) helps build your gut microbiome. You’ll have access to fresher vegetables than what you can find at the grocery store. That means your veggies have a higher water concentration and more fiber, which is critical for going #2. You'll eat a wider variety of nutrients because the grocery store only stocks foods that store well. You’ll build your routine of checking on your garden, and your gut loves a routine. Gardening is proven to lower your stress levels. Less stress means less cortisol and a less inflamed and imbalanced GI system. →Download our free Gardenary Calendar to learn when you can plant fiber-rich veggies in your garden: https://www.gardenary.com/garden-calendar →Get a customized fall plant list based on where you live and how much time you have to garden: https://www.gardenary.com/fall-garden-quiz If this was helpful, share it with a friend to help them solve their poop problem. Did you know you could make some money from your garden without ever having to sell your harvest? It's true. Eight years ago, I googled "how to make a living as a gardener". The top options—turning my backyard into a garlic farm or a plant nursery—just weren't for me. So I came up with something that would allow me to be my own boss and teach my gardening knowledge. Becoming a garden consultant changed my life forever, and I've never had to sell my garden harvests. Here are the steps YOU can take to make a living from your garden, starting right now. What if I told you there's something you can start growing right now, no matter where you live? Something you can grow even if you have nothing but a dark room in a dark apartment. Something you can grow if you've killed every other plant you've ever tried to grow. These plants grow indoors in just a few days. They don't need much space or any lights at all, and they require basically zero gardening skills. Oh, and they're super good for you and make all your meals feel gourmet. It's sprouts! Have I sold you on them yet? Grow these with me if you grow nothing else this year. This episode covers: supplies you need to grow sprouts steps to "grow" sprouts how to "harvest" sprouts If you want more details for how to grow sprouts and their slightly larger counterparts, microgreens, I've got step-by-step guides in my book, Leaves, Roots & Fruit , so you don't have to grow alone! It's been a hot minute since I recorded a Grow Your Self podcast episode. Actually, it's been a hot three years. I launched the podcast back in 2020.
