Harris may have been born and raised in New York City, but she has Tennessee roots through her father and has spent much of her life split between homes in the Northeast and the South – specifically New Orleans. For more than fifty years, she has been a college professor, a writer, and a lecturer, and her many books have earned her a reputation as an authority on food of the African Diaspora, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the James Beard Foundation. A few years back, Netflix adapted her book, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America , into a 4 part docuseries. ×Sophie struggled with her weight, and was surposed her bodyfat was 40%....so her first focus was in bringing that down, naturally, BUT her weight loss path took a turn... She struggles with an incurable form of cancer, and hence, we had to tread lightly (build health, versus lose weight), and she was game. Also, she had to do the Mindset work first, and along every step, in order to create the change she wanted... Today, she is healthy, her bloodwork check ins for her condition continue to surprise her oncologist and her weight is coming off smoothly now... Here's her story.... Osteoporosis is a silent disease that affects millions of women every year, and it often has no symptoms, until it is too late. Bone loss begins in our late 30's, and increases with intensity as we age. In perimenopause, the bone loss speeds up, and even more so when we hit menopause. BUT...there is much we can do to stem the onslaught of this terribly disease, so we can age well, stay mobile and independent and live well into our golden years. I also go into my DEXA scan that creates images of your bone density over the years (the video shows you this).
