"It is a scientific fact that these macaques, like all other primates, including humans, are communicating. They communicate in much the same way we do - facial expressions, vocalizations, body postures, those kinds of things." - Jeff Kerr Jeff Kerr is PETA foundations Chief Legal Officer. I asked him to come on the show to talk about one of PETA’s current lawsuits against the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Nathional Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). PETA is arguing that the monkeys being tested on in a government run facility are capable of communication (or “are communicating”). And that we have a constitutional right under the First Amendment to receive their communications. This could be a game changer in allowing us to see what’s really going on in labs that are funded by taxpayer money, and which have so far been censored from public view. PETA’s lawsuit follows years of NIH’s attempts to deny Freedom of Information requests banning PETA executives from its campus and illegally censoring animal advocates’ speech on NIH’s public social media pages. Through the lawsuit, PETA is seeking a live audio-visual feed to see and hear real-time communications from the macaques who have been kept isolated, used in fear experiments, and had posts cemented into their heads. Anthropologists and other scientists have studied macaque and other primate communications for decades and know that the monkeys communicate effectively and intentionally through lip smacking, fear grimaces, body language, and various cries and sounds—all of which constitute speech under the law. Primatologists can analyze that speech on a deeper level to share their stories with the world.…

Did you know that Lindt & Sprüngli, the renowned Swiss chocolatier, is currently facing a class-action lawsuit in the United States concerning allegations of elevated levels of heavy metals lead and cadmium in its dark chocolate products. The lawsuit, initiated in February 2022 was spurred by a 2022 Consumer Reports investigation that tested 28 dark chocolate bars sold in the U.S., revealing that certain Lindt products (including 70% and 85% cacao bars) contained higher-than-acceptable levels of these heavy metals! I was shopping for a gift with my girls and we stumbled across a series of books- each one representing the individual zodiac signs. The books were aimed at children, so I thought it'd be nice to get one for each of us so the girls could understand a little about what being a cancer and Aquarius means. Truth is, I was also secretly excited to learn a little myself as my understanding of astrology is very basic. I used to have insomnia. When I first moved to Adelaide (from Kangaroo Island), the fast paced and noisy big smoke put me in a state of frazzle. I'd tried every trick and herb in the book, but I still wouldn't go to sleep until I was utterly exhausted. When I started studying, I put this and many of my other symptoms down to 'adrenal stress' and then I was convinced I developed a state of 'adrenal fatigue'. Well that's what testing showed too. But the functional medicine community was missing parts of the puzzle when it came to stress and the adrenal glands and how this impacts your health. & yes, this stress response I'm talking about governs the health of your energy, moods, skin, sleep, cycles, weight & more. We now know the 'adrenal stress' and 'adrenal fatigue' concept are actually a misrepresentation of what is really happening with your hormone production, in response to stress.
