Philippians 2:3-5 NIV
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.
If you want to flourish in God’s universe, always choose humility.
Here’s how Paul defines humility.
1Not using others to bring a sense of value and significance to yourself. Rather, humility wants to show other people their value.
2Not using others to advance your own interests. Rather, humility cares first about the interests/needs/story of others.
3And what will always ruin relationships is selfish ambition and trying to bring recognition and glory to yourself.
But all this is impossible if we don’t have the sense of our value and significance and future glory that’s already ours in the gospel of Christ. When we believe/trust the gospel, we don’t have to use others to get what we already have. We’re freed to be humble.

And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming.” One thing this tells us is that meditation has been a practice of God’s people for at least 4,000 thousand years. The word meditate or meditation appears 22 times in our Bible. But Christian meditation is not about emptying our minds at all, but about filling our minds with the reality of who God is, who we are to God, and the story our life is in. Meditation is an ancient form of prayer that enables God’s people to experience awe and wonder by envisioning spiritual realities with “the eyes of our heart” (Eph 1:18). God says, Psalms 46:10 (NIV) “Be still, and know that I am God.” Being still before God is essential if you really want to experience connection with God. CS Lewis (Mere Christianity) “God has infinite attention…to spare for each one of us. …You're as much alone with Him as if you were the only thing He'd ever created.” Zechariah 12:1 NIV “The LORD…stretches out the heavens … and…forms the human spirit within a person...” The same God that created the entire universe also specifically created you to be a YOU in his creation. Forever! The apostle Paul was speaking to non-Christians when he said… Acts 17:25 NIV “…He himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.” Each breath is your continuous dependence on God for your life at every moment. The Spirit of the God who created this universe is giving life to your body right now. The apostle Paul also said… Acts 17:28 NIV “In him we live and move and have our being.” Every moment in your life is a kind of experience of God — whether you realize it or not. But realize it now. The life you feel inside your body in a very real sense is feeling the presence of God.. Paul wrote to God’s people when he said… 1 Cor 6:19 ESV “…Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you.” So imagine/envision God’s Holy Spirit in your body! Psalms 63:6 (ESV) King David writes… “…I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you ...” Hebrew: “Mindful of” Hebrew: “Imagine” So what this is telling us is that “mindfulness” and “meditation” are ancient biblical disciplines that God’s people have been practicing for thousands of years. Being mindful of God doesn’t mean trying to picture God. It means using your biblically guided imagination to envision what the Bible tells us is true about God. And all that that means for you in how you envision/narrate your life and your future. Christian meditation puts our imagination and therefore our body back into the truer narrative/story… Psalms 20:7 (ESV) “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. ( “Mindful of”) Let’s be mindful of God’s name: HE IS— Creator Source of all life Sustainer Eternal Infinitely present In Acts 17 the Apostle Paul is talking to pagan philosophers in Athens. So he is using very general language . But everything he says is part of the gospel . That's what he's doing. He's preaching the gospel. So this is something that we as Christians need to envision as a promise of the gospel, a foundational truth about God and our lives. So Paul says in Acts 17:24-25 , “ The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth .” And then in the next verse, he says, “ And he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else .” Then in verse 28 he says, “ In him we live and move and have our being .“ The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth . The universe. HE IS. And he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else . God is the one who gives you your life, your very breath right now. HE IS. In him you live and move and have your very being . He is giving you life right now. HE IS your breath of life right now in this breath. And he gives you everything else in your life. Everything in your life ultimately comes from his hand. HE IS. And so you have to decide if you're going to trust the God who made everything in heaven and on earth. Everything in this universe comes from him. He created the entire universe of a trillion galaxies. He is all-powerful. And yet he is a God of steadfast love and intimate, infinite focus on you to the very hairs of your head, Jesus says in Matthew 10. So you can trust God with your life, even in stressful times. Psalms 20:7 (ESV) “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. ( “Mindful of”) Who can you share this podcast with? You are infinitely important (because he is infinite!) to the one who created this entire universe. He specifically created you to be YOU in his creation. Forever! But there is a real you that is in his image that he is transforming you into. That’s what your life is about. That’s the bigger story your life is in in every single moment. CS Lewis (Mere Christianity) “God has infinite attention, infinite leisure to spare for each one of us. He doesn't have to take us in the line.
