(S1: RITUAL) On Creativity & Space
Manage episode 288069338 series 2858446
“I work for myself, so I have so much freedom. But I didn’t even see that I could play around with my schedule and match it to my energy.”
— Annie Bacher
If you could design your perfect work day, what would it look like?
Annie Bacher is a copywriter who helps tech companies figure out what they're trying to say so they can attract their ideal users and improve customer experiences.
Her main ritual has to do with scheduling.
Completing an energy mapping exercise made her realize that her creative energy was strongest in the early morning.
It turned out she’d been wasting most of her peak creative time at the gym.
So, Annie quickly made a change.
“It doesn’t sound exciting, but it’s really important to my day and my energy — having space in my schedule that’s blocked out for writing and checking in with myself,” Annie says. “The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is I make coffee and I do morning pages… I put on music and I write until I fill up three pages.”
Scheduling your day down to the hour may seem counterintuitive to creativity, but the key is to intentionally create space for creativity to happen, Annie says.
In this episode of the podcast, you’ll discover:
- How to design a perfect schedule that unlocks your deepest creative potential
- The concept of creativity containers — and how to make them work for you
- How to hit the perfect balance between freedom and structure
