Target Audience
This activity is targeted toward primary care specialties.
Statement of Need
It is estimated that approximately 7-8% of the population suffers from PTSD at some point in their lives. Research shows that patients with PTSD symptoms are often undiagnosed in primary care, which is typically where these patients see health care providers for either co-morbidities or complaints that are manifested as a result of PTSD (anxiety, trouble sleeping, etc.). Research indicates that PCPs may lack the knowledge of common risk factors that indicate screening for PTSD; therefore this condition often goes undiagnosed and managed. (Harvard Review of Psychiatry, Journal of Psychosocial Nursing, etc.)
ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the impact of the global pandemic on behavioral health.
- Review the biological responses of trauma.
