Ever wondered how a film from the 90s shaped the contemporary queer landscape? Philip Bahr dives right in and breaks down the iconic 1994 Australian film 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.' It's a frothy, fun, and deeply impactful film that still holds significance in the current political climate. He sifts through its layers, characters, and the harsh reality of that era, as well as elements of the film that may not have aged particularly well.
Brad is on vacation so rather than replay an older episode he offers one from one of his favorite podcasts. Reel Charlie Speaks is an LGBTQ podcast spin-off of the film and television review blog, Reel Charlie, which has been looking at movies and TV from a gay male perspective since 2009. Each month the host, Philip Bahr, selects a classic queer film, television series, or creator. He talks about how the subject spoke to him when he first discovered it years ago, and how it stood the test of time. Spoilers possible. Alerts always.
