Major Vivek Jacob (Veteran – Indian Army, Special Forces)
Founder and Director - C.L.A.W Global & Operation Blue Freedom Foundation
I was born into an Indian middle-class family and proudly joined the Army in my
teens to serve my country. Post formal training at the National Defence Academy, I
volunteered for and qualified as a Special Forces Operative. I specialised in Counter
– Terrorist Operations and was trained in various skills oriented to delivering precise
force in combat. I had the fortune to lead my men in numerous combat missions
during my service spanning 14 years. It was while being deployed in the United
Nations Mission in Africa as the commander of the Hostage Extraction Troop, that
my understanding of what it meant to be alive, human and free, began to evolve.
In 2015, I suffered a spinal cord injury in a combat skydive. While recovering in
hospital, I met an Airforce officer permanently paralysed in a mishap. The days spent
in hospital further changed my perspective of life. I voluntarily retired from the Army
and began a life focused on creation rather than destruction.
As I began a new journey, other ex- SF mates started joining in and we formed up
under the flagship - C.L.A.W global - a team of highly trained former Special Forces
soldiers. Specialists in scuba Diving, mountaineering, skydiving, un-armed combat,
survival, emergency medical response, etc. We united our energy to teach these
adventure and life skills to people with disabilities and tribal youth in villages. Our
focus being to design and deliver sustainable, large-scale employment solutions for
the handicapped and the underprivileged in the Environment Protection &
Conservation space.
In 2019, Team C.L.A.W launched Operation Blue Freedom. A movement to
express the powerful spirit and ability of people with disabilities. To evolve the
perception of society towards who they are and what they are capable of. To secure
their right to dignity. To exercise their ability to contribute value and inspire freedom.
For all.
For more than a year, the Op Blue Freedom Team has travelled across the length
of India and trained more than a 100 people paralysed by spinal cord injuries in
Scuba diving. Our first step.
We are presently preparing for Triple World Records, in the three elements of Land,
Sea and Air, by people with disabilities. A statement of hope, inspiration, resilience
and change. For people with disabilities and the able bodied alike across the world.
Sans race, religion or international boundaries.
Freedom is a collective experience. Either we all have it or none of us do.
