He previously served as the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing at Grand Island Public Schools, the Assistant Director of Communications at the University of Nebraska Foundation, and the Digital Editor at KETV NewsWatch 7. Planos has an extensive background in strategic communications and marketing, and was captain of the speech team at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations.
