Esta reflexión surgió al escuchar a nuestra ícona Julia Fox hablar sobre por qué ella cree que ser musa es contribuir a la narrativa patriarcal. Alimento esta conversación de la teoría de Laura Mulvey "Placeres visuales y cine narrativo" (1975), así como teorías de psicoanálisis, y como siempre, mi opinión y experiencia personal. He estado trabajando estas últimas semanas en mi exposición de arte y en enviar trabajo de foto a repostas y galerías en otros países, y cada vez que me abro una oportunidad que me he ganado, trabajado y merecido, me llega un fuerte sentimiento de culpa y de "síndrome del impostor". Hello again! Happy last day of August, & happy full (blue) mooooooooon!!!! Today we will talk about the aesthetic that we have attributed to health and wellbeing online- particularly departing from the grind culture and "that girl" tropes, and how these highly curated ideas may be impacting us. I personally have fallen victim to the effects of internalising a (very) damaging narrative that we have attributed to health within the west, under the terms of capitalism and an unrealistic lifestyle that does not take into account many complexities. I am not against people who follow this lifestyle, in fact I do align with a lot of the values from this trope online- however, I do want to bring into the table a conversation to de-glamourise the "hustle" and "glow up" culture that we seem to be so obsessed with. This might be **controversial**, so I am super keen to hear your thoughts, ideas, and experiences. As always, this is coming from my personal journey and from the insight I have gotten working with specialists in my own life- I do not attempt to impose any of my believes and ideas in here, and certainly this ISNT medical or professional advice (as you might have guessed), I just truly felt compelled to record this as I keep realising how white-washed our ideals around health and wellbeing are. TW suicidal ideation. Hello, welcome back !🌞🪩💌🧚🏽♀️🍵 The other day, I had a liiiiiiiitle teeny tiny crisis, where, despite I was not experiencing suicidal thoughts, I felt very comforted by an article I found that talks about navigating the role as an emotional supports towards a person who is experiencing suicidal thoughts and very low mental health states. *I am not a professional so this is purely based on my experience and what I have learned from mental health support trainings, and particularly a response to the "anti self-help" articles I found. I know that today's discussion is more dense to what we usually talk about here, so please feel free to skip this episode if this is too triggering or too much to handle for you at this time. I find value sharing finding reflections like these, and align to my ethos towards this space, which I have utilised to talk about things that serve me, as well as topics that evolve and change with me. One of them is self-help. I am not currently against it, however I do not think self-help is the answer for all healing; in fact, I think that the self-help narrative could be somewhat damaging if we utilise it as an "apply it to all" rule of thumb. Today we explore why self-care advice and content we see around might not be the answer to some of our complications, in this case, those concerning our mental health or a crisis. ** DISCLAIMER** The sources that sparked thought upon this conversation talk about suicide, however I cannot speak on behalf of that community as I do not currently experience suicidal ideation.
