In this episode Nicole shares her journey with Hashimoto’s Disease and Thyroid Disease. She shares how important an ultrasound of her thyroid was to getting an accurate diagnosis, in addition to bloodwork. Once diagnosed, Nicole touches on the different medications that have been prescribed to her over the years and which ones worked best for her. In addition to going over the symptoms of thyroid disease, she also covers the symptoms / signs of perimenopause, which hit her shortly after she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and Thyroid Disease. Nicole shares the adjustments she made in her diet to bring down inflammation, which included going gluten-free and significantly cutting alcohol out of her life. Additionally, she covers specific examples of some of the meals she eats throughout the day, her exercise routine, stress management tools and supplements she takes daily. She reflects on the reasons she got a hysterectomy at the age of 49 and how hormone replacement therapy has been life changing for her. She also focuses on how the weight of stress women carry in their daily lives can significantly contribute to triggering an autoimmune disease, as well as the importance of self-care and prioritizing oneself. Nicole hopes that sharing her experience and what she learned along the way will be a helpful resource for people, especially women, who may be struggling with they symptoms of an autoimmune disease or perimenopause, or as in her case, both. In this episode we welcome Ali, a GenZ / Zillennial who spent most of his formative years growing up in Morocco, where most of his family still resides. Ali tells us about the beauty and culture of Morocco, and how it is a great destination as it offers so many different experiences from the beach to the mountains to the desert. We learn about his move from Morocco to St. Petersburg, Florida with his mother, father and older brother where he spent his preschool years to first grade until they all moved back to Morocco after his mother’s unexpected deportation. Back in Morocco, Ali attended a private American school where he was taught a similar curriculum to what was being used in the US, and played various sports against schools from different parts of Morocco. In addition to learning English while in America and French in Morocco, Ali also learned Darija, a Moroccan dialect of Arabic, in the home. After his sophomore year in high school, Ali moved back to St. Petersburg and went through the adjustment of not only living in America again, but experiencing American high school culture. After graduation, Ali attended Florida State University. He reflects on his time living on his own, joining a frat after only being back in American culture for 2 1/2 years and putting himself through college. We learn about his first job in the corporate world post-college, and the experiences he learned while there that he took to his next/current job at SAP, which led him to a move to Boston. A return to Florida a year later found him living in Fort Lauderdale with Nick Wucher, the Co-Founder and Creative Director of the brand YIFNO (Yo It’s F*cking Nice Out) (Episode 30) , with an eventual move to Miami where he currently resides. Ali shares about his father’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease from the age of 47 and how Deep Brain Stimulation, a brain surgery he received at the age of 62 at Tampa General by Dr. Oliver Flouty, removed the Parkinson’s symptoms and gave his father back an active and healthy life. It’s truly a miracle! Ali shares insight into the dating scene for his generation which includes touching on situationships, dating apps, coffee dates and chivalry. Ali also offers some life advice for the younger generations coming after him. We loved having Ali in the studio to share his story and have already added Morocco as a destination on our travel bucket list! We can’t wait to have him back in the future to hear where his journey has taken him. In this episode we welcome Marlon, a Genxer from Trinidad who became an American citizen. Marlon describes the differences between Trinidad and Tobago, known as the “Twin Islands”. He shares his family background rooted in both Hindu and Arawak, and how coming from a blending of both led to him being exposed to overt racism from his own family. We learn about his formative years in school in Trinidad, in addition to the sports, food, weather, government system and overall culture of Trinidad. A particularly riveting story Marlon shared with us reflects on the time he was “scooped up” and arrested with other men that resulted in a two week stay in prison before he was finally released. He shares about his years of being punk and being a member of a punk band, and how a moment at a party when he used a computer for the first time led to his first job at a newspaper on Trinidad where he started in classifieds and eventually worked on the front page. Working on a project that involved Mariah Carey gave him the opportunity to come to America for the first time which led to his goal of moving to America and becoming a citizen. We learn about his time living in Miami, as well as the time he was homeless but still maintained a job that had a commute that required a lot of creativity, determination and time, and even included having to hang out in the Miami Airport some nights. Marlon’s work ethic shines as we learn about the many positions he’s held at various businesses as he’s built his reputation not only in graphic design, but as an exceptional individual. We learn about his wonderful 11 year relationship with his girl, and how he makes time for his passions, one being his dedication to working out. In addition to the many creative outlets Marlon has, including music, he is currently working on a children’s book! We were very impressed with Marlon’s dedication to creating and making time for the things that are important to him, and enjoyed learning about what and who inspires him, one of which includes Tony Robbins. We were honored to hear Marlon’s amazing story of courage, determination, creativity and talent and are truly inspired by what he shared. We look forward to having him return in the future! In this episode, Brian and Nicole discuss parenting adult children. They share how they've had to transition as parents in order to continue to be supportive and offer guidance while respecting their adult children's space. They reflect on the various changes and experiences adult children face for the first time in their 20s, and how the entire decade can be quite an erratic ride. They deep dive into how the corporate world is receiving GenZ as they enter the workforce, as well as the contributions Millennials and GenZ has made that have had an effect on corporate culture. Nicole shares her outlook of having an open nest vs an empty nest home, as well as her belief that the time and effort you put into your children's childhood determines how much access you'll have to them when they are adults. They also both acknowledge that communication with adult children is a 2-way street, and that parents need to continue to put in effort to stay in touch with their kids. It was a great discussion on such an important part of life for both adult children and their parents, and we hope our listeners enjoy it! In this episode, Brian and Nicole discuss attachment styles and relationship dynamics. Styles discussed include anxious, dismissive avoidant, fearful avoidant and secure attachment styles. They share their own attachment styles they’ve had throughout their life and relationships. They touch on how various characteristics of avoidant attachment can be highly damaging to a relationship and partner, as well as how anxious attachment can be very triggering and intense. They cover the emotional development of GenX men, women and the generation as a whole, and how it has possibly not only affected marriage and relationships for GenX, but contributed to the rise in divorce for them as well. Nicole once again raises the topic of perimenopause and menopause, and shares the importance of having a partner that will evolve with a woman through this phase of her life. We reflect on the fate of GenX and how recognizing your own attachment style as well as your partner’s can play a vital role. We really enjoyed delving into these topics and may revisit them in a future episode! In this episode we welcome Jacob Kirstein, the founder of the brands Chapie and TERA. Jacob, a Zillennial Millennial, shares about moving with his family to different parts of Florida when he was young, and eventually settling in Tampa, where he spent his formative years until 8th grade. After his parents divorce, he moved to South Florida where he discovered a love for graphic design and 3D printing in his Drafting and Design Class in high school. This led to pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering at University of Central Florida, where he was presented with many opportunities, one being building a satellite that was sent into space, all while working on his first invention. We get a glimpse into the world of SpaceX, where Jacob worked one summer during college, as well as his thrilling experience skydiving in Hawaii. After graduating, he accepted a job at NASA, where he once again was presented with unique and rare opportunities that few get to experience. After accepting a corporate job, Covid hit, and he found himself once again in South Florida living with his then girlfriend, now fiancé. Jacob’s endless drive led him to inventing Chapie, a vacuum insulated container to keep your chapstick from melting in the heat. Chapie’s line grew to include containers perfect for lipstick, epipens, make-up, deodorant, your phone and even an extra large, spill proof water bottle. Jacob’s curious mind then invented the TERA cooler, which is a cooler that literally meets every need. In addition to keeping food and beverages cold, it has drink and towel holders, a speaker, dry storage, phone charger, bottle opener and it even floats! Even while Jacob’s constantly thinking and curious mind has led him to even more business ventures, he has never lost sight of his goal of creating a positive impact on the world through his work and inventions. He is also looking forward to his upcoming wedding and having a family with his bride-to-be. Nicole and Brian fully support the Chapie and TERA brands, as we know they will both help make people’s lives easier and more enjoyable, and were invented with good and authentic intent. We look forward to Jacob’s return to the studio in the future so we can hear about what new things he has created and experienced! In this episode we welcome Nick Wucher, the Co-Founder and Creative Director of the clothing brand YIFNO, which stands for “Yo, It’s F*cking Nice Out.” Nick is a GenZ/Zillennial who has spent a good part of his 20s solidifying himself as a high-level entrepreneur. We are offered a look into Nick’s childhood, where his parents seemingly excelled in providing a stable and supportive co-parenting example after they divorced when Nick was 5 years old. Nick shares how his mother’s determination to start her own business combined with his father’s success in the corporate world gave him the perfect foundation to stand on when it came time to chase his own dream. We are regaled with stories about his extended family in Peru as well as his paternal grandfather’s fascinating life in Miami, the Navy and Cuba. Nick shares about his antics in middle school, which included Friday fights and his first “business”, as well as his love for football, which he played from an early age through high school. He reflects about his college years in Tallahassee and the love he has for his Florida State University community of fellow Noles, as they were the first to support his brand, YIFNO. We learn of the birth and growth of YIFNO in Tallahassee and how Nick continued its growth when he returned to South Florida after graduating FSU. After accepting a corporate job, Nick successfully balanced his 9-5 all while continuing to build and grow YIFNO through pop-ups in various locations, including a successful stint in New York City. Nick shares the many ways he has worked to market YIFNO, including incorporating YIFNO into comedy shows and selling his line internationally. We learn about his past and present business partners, which include his younger brother, and his cherished team, who it’s obvious he holds in the highest esteem. Together they are world building, creating and maintaining a community of authenticity, quality and loyalty. Nick shares insight on the balance of not caring what others think while still caring deeply about your work, as well as the importance of not being ashamed of prioritizing your finances through a 9-5 while you work on your “5-9”. We were thrilled to have Nick in the studio to share not only his story but the story of YIFNO as well. Brian and I both believe in this brand, as it comes from a creative place of good and real, which is exemplified in many ways, one being the charitable causes YIFNO supports both domestically and internationally. We look forward to having Nick back in the studio in the future and are excited to participate in the YIFNO community! In this episode we welcome Mary, a GenX. Mary shares about her upbringing in a small town in south New Jersey, where she was the youngest of 6. A natural athlete, Mary followed in her siblings steps by joining the local swim team at the young age of three. She continued to swim through her formative years and eventually swam at the collegiate level in college. After graduation, she accepted a job as a high school English teacher in Maryland where she worked tirelessly as a new teacher to her 9th and 11th grade students. A couple years later she packed up and embarked on a move to New York City. Mary gives us a glimpse into the ten years she lived in the city, working as an assistant to a fashion stylist, a model, an actress, a server/bartender and eventually a sales executive, all while living the “Sex and the City”. Wanting a change, she left the city and moved down to south Florida, where she married and became a mother in addition to becoming a certified yoga instructor and eventual entrepreneur of her own athletic wear, Manmaker Sports. Recently divorced, Mary shares some wisdom to couples who may be in the process of divorcing, as well as inspiration as she reflects on the exciting events already occurring in her new chapter. We learn about Mary’s exciting career path she has undertaken, which includes EFT Tapping, Matrix Imprinting and getting certified in Homeopathy, all while continuing to teach yoga. We loved having Mary in the studio and truly appreciated her teaching us about these new ways to unpack past trauma and heal. In this episode we welcome Guller, a Millennial/Zillennial. Guller shares with us his father’s move from Turkey to America, and his parents eventual meeting on a blind date at Chapel Hill. He shares the origin of his name, which is a combination of his Turkish and rural North Carolina roots. We learn how Guitar Hero literally struck a chord in him when he was in elementary school, which sparked a desire to learn how to play music with a focus on guitar. Guller shares how a random moment of dabbling on his Turkish grandmother’s old piano led to the discovery of a natural talent on the keys that his parents fostered with piano lessons. He touches on how lack of preparation for a piano recital when he was in middle school taught him a lifelong lesson that he still uses to this day. We learn of Guller’s musical inspirations which include The Grateful Dead, Billy Joel, The Allman Brothers, Elton John and The Beatles, just to name a few, and how his parents constant support of his love for music facilitated growth and personal success for him. Guller reflects on his years attending Florida State University and how he almost didn’t graduate if it weren’t for the discovery of a woman named Jill who tirelessly aided people by helping them find a strategy to finish their education. We also learn how his strong support system of friends and family helped him embark on a successful wellness journey. After a modified “GAP Year” that was a few months of travel, Guller began his career in tech sales, all while balancing being a member of a few different bands. I think we counted about 10 bands Guller has been a member of from his middle school days to today, and we’re sure that number will continue to climb throughout his life. We especially enjoyed discussing The Grateful Dead’s music and culture, and hearing his perspective while also sharing our own. Guller is currently playing shows with his band 59 Shop while enjoying continued success in tech sales working for Finally, a company that offers a full accounting and finance suite to its customers. We thoroughly enjoyed Guller’s story, and were especially impressed with his passion and drive in balancing his music and business career in addition to continually growing in his personal life. We definitely plan on seeing Guller perform live in the near future, and look forward to hosting him again in the studio! 59 Shop https://www.instagram.com/59shopband/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/7uwzPFpOuIV0vymZvjSTnT Wrasse https://www.instagram.com/wrassetheband/ https://open.spotify.com/track/3qNt03V9hOBemv3jHUIin5?si=ccc81e00b6c342fe The Pleasures https://www.instagram.com/thepleasuresss/ Finally www.finally.com Visit Us At: https://linktr.ee/genxadulting https://shop.genxadulting.com https://www.tiktok.com/@genxadulting https://www.instagram.com/genx.adulting/ https://www.facebook.com/genxadulting https://www.youtube.com/@genxadulting #music #thegratefuldead #piano #keyboardist #pianist #billystrings #band #fsu #floridastateuniversity #turkey #bluegrass #sales #technology #gapyear Check us out at genxadulting.com #generationx #genx #podcast #marriage #relationship #interview #mom #family…

In this episode we welcome Kierstin to the studio. Kierstin shares with us how she was always the quiet and shy girl through her formative years and typically internalized everything. Her mother’s battle with cancer through Kierstin’s middle school years, and eventual tragic passing when Kierstin was in 8th grade, further amplified those characteristics and as a result, she spent most of her high school years isolating in her own little bubble. She reflects on her decision to force herself out of her comfort zone as she headed into college and used the opportunities she found at Florida State University to continually challenge herself to be social. She found so much success in her endeavor that it left her exhausted and depleted and once again facing her issues. During her sophomore year, she courageously sought help and found therapy on campus which stopped her spiral and gave her space to find true healing. After graduation, we learn how Kierstin continued to challenge herself by choosing jobs related to event planning and hospitality, which led to her current position where she works various prestigious and private events throughout South Florida. We discuss authenticity in today’s current dating culture and the various challenges young women face as a result of dating apps. Kierstin also shares about her experience in a toxic relationship, and how the lessons she learned has helped her completely adjust her standards going forward. We truly value Kierstin’s trust in us that allowed her to share her story and loved learning about her amazing journey thus far. We look forward to having her as a return guest in the future! In this episode, Brian and Nicole delve deeper into the concept of someone reclaiming their energy. Nicole theorizes that although peri/menopause is certainly a factor of women reclaiming their energy midlife, it isn’t the only reason. They discuss the motivations of women reaching the point where they’re “done” in a marriage or relationship, and why many men are triggered by women empowering themselves. Brian reflects on if men go through their own hormonal change and how it may affect their decision making. They discuss the importance of having a real friendship with your partner and how the lack of one can be a contributing factor in the demise of a marriage or relationship, especially as a woman hits peri/menopause. We enjoyed having the opportunity to further dissect the concept of reclaiming your energy and how peri/menopause can play a role.
