It seems like Donald Trump and his administration are inching closer to defying orders that have been issued by federal court judges. So what happens if a judge issues an order prohibiting the Trump administration from doing something and Trump flat out refuses to comply? The federal law (28 USC section 566(c)) provides that "the United States Marshals Service shall execute all lawful writs, process, and orders issued under the authority of the United States, and shall command all necessary assistance to execute its duties." Glenn discusses the role of the US Marshals Service (USMS) with a retired member of the USMS, Arthur Roderick, who served as an Assistant Director of the Marshals Service, about the law, the realities, and the practicalities of this legal requirement that the United States Marshals Service executes all federal court orders. During the conference, a "credible bomb threat" was made that required the premises to be cleared out while law enforcement with bomb-sniffing dogs secured and cleared the scene. An email was received explaining the motivation for the bomb threat and listing a number speakers at the conference who "deserve to die", (including Glenn!). NY US Attorney Stands Up to Trump's DOJ, Resigns Rather Than Dismissing Case for Political Reasons 10:07

The resistance and opposition from within Donald Trump's Department of Justice is building. Rather than comply with an unethical directive from DOJ leadership, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Danielle Sassoon, resigned. Emil Bove, a member of Trump's team at the DOJ, directed the acting US Attorney in Manhattan, Danielle Sassoon, to dismiss the case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, not based on the evidence but because they wanted Adams to help the Trump administration with some of it's goals and priorities. But rather than agree to dismiss the case for political reasons, US Attorney Sassoon chose to resigned. Trump's DOJ officials then tried to move supervision of the Adams case down to Washington D.C., and following that - the top two supervisors in the DOJ's Public Integrity Section resigned as well. In a staggering display of retaliation, Bove, one of Trump's former criminal defense attorneys now a top DOJ official, told Ms. Sassoon that both she and the prosecutors who worked on the Adams case would be investigated by the DOJ. Just days earlier, when he was first directing Sassoon to dismiss the case, "Mr. Bove in his order to drop the case said that the directive 'in no way calls into question the integrity and efforts' of the prosecutors working on the case, nor Ms. Sassoon’s efforts in leading them". Inspectors general are the peoples' watchdogs inside government, guarding against fraud, waste, abuse, and corruption by administration employees and officials. In a very real sense, IGs are our cops on the inside. Just days after being sworn in, Donald Trump fired a whole slew of IGs in violation of federal law. Now, some of the wrongfully terminated IGs are fighting back. As The Hill reported, "Eight Fired Government Watchdogs Sue Trump Administration." The federal law requires a president to give Congress 30 days advance notice before firing an inspector general. Trump gave Congress NO NOTICE, violating federal law. The law also requires a president to provide "substantive rationale, including detailed and case-specific reasons" for the termination. Trump failed to do so, in violation of federal law.
