In this episode of #LifeisaSacredJourney, join us for an engaging conversation with the teZa Lord, author, artist, and spirit activist. Disseminating meditative videos, posts, and inspiring visual aids in social media realms, using hashtags such as #stayWoke #higherConsciousness #IamCivitas, being a metaphorical Civitas, not entertaining or pitching, but uplifting others through books, public speaking, and offering creative expressions of various sorts. Balancing the weight of society’s tendency toward negativity is her artist/author/spiritual activist role today. Her childhood dream was to fly above life’s dangers. By indiscriminately sowing positive thought seeds, she is now truly flying. Not with a winged body, but by Being comfortably aligned with Spirit. She calls herself a lieutenant in the Army of Love (See Hybrid Vigor, her nonfiction book). Her motto is: Love is the weapon of mass illumination.

🎙 In this episode, we are pleased to introduce Nancy Treaster. As an experienced dementia caregiver and entrepreneur, Nancy co-hosts The Caregiver's Journey podcast, which provides valuable insights and practical advice for caregivers. ✨ When she cracked the code on how to get her husband’s sleeping back on track early in his journey with dementia, Nancy Treaster felt like a “new normal” was finally within reach. The retired software industry veteran who spent her professional life managing strategy for a publicly-traded, global company found herself in unfamiliar territory with her husband’s diagnosis, and her usual techniques for quickly changing course and overcoming obstacles weren’t working. ✨ When she reconnected with her friend, veteran caregiver Sue Ryan, the two lamented the lack of candid and practical advice for the day-to-day of caregiving for people living with dementia, and then the two former colleagues did what they know best – they created the solution. Through The Caregiver’s Journey, Nancy brings her business expertise, caregiving experience, and acquired knowledge as a Certified Caregiving Advocate and Certified Caregiving Consultant to improving the lives of dementia caregivers with frank and actionable insights and advice – something there is not enough of in the marketplace. Through short and engaging podcasts, Nancy and Sue map out solutions that caregivers are desperately seeking, in particular for uncomfortable topics like taking away the car keys, safety, and incontinence. In doing so, Sue and Nancy are also creating a sense of community that is so often hard for caregivers to find. ✨ Prior to founding The Caregiver’s Journey, Nancy spent 16 years as General Manager of Strategic Operations at Verint Systems, a leader in customer experience (CX) automation. She lives in Atlanta with her husband, who lives at home with the support of his family and caregivers. 🔗 Learn more: https://thecaregiversjourney.com…

In her daily life, she’s a business consultant and global community builder. 📖 Lynn wrote the book, “Out Of Love: A Daughter’s Journey With Her Mom To The End,” to normalize and de-stigmatize what many families may take for granted or miss in their often overwhelming and new experience as caregivers. 🔗 Learn more: https://www.lynnabatejohnson.com…

With two published children's books under his belt, Kale is making waves in the literary world. His first book, Danny the Duck Heads South, was released in the fall of 2020 when Kale was only a sophomore in high school, and his second book, Danny and Kevin Conquer Camping, was published in the spring of 2022. The latter was written to raise awareness for limb loss and limb differences and to promote inclusivity and friendship among children. 🎙 🎙 In this special episode of #LifeisaSacredJourney, our fantastic host, Micheal Pope, will be joined by the superb Carolyn A. Brent to celebrate the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. Historical Background: In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9, which designated the month of March 1987 as Women's History Month. Between 1988-1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women's History Month. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women's History Month on occasion. State departments of education also began to encourage celebrations of Women's History Month to promote equality among the sexes in the classroom. Within a few years, thousands of schools and communities began to celebrate Women's History Month. They planned engaging and stimulating programs about women's roles in history and society, with support and encouragement from governors, city councils, school boards, and the U.S. Congress. Today, some of the groups promoting this interest are state historical societies, women's organizations, and groups such as the USA's Girl Scouts. 🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸 SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel www.michealpopeproductions.com…

In this episode, Host, Micheal Pope, will be reflecting on how we can balance grief and joy in these times of uncertainty. Whatever you are feeling right now, it's valid. We are all just doing the best we can. So much is being lost amid the COVID-19 global pandemic. We have lost our routines and many freedoms. Many people have lost their jobs. We have lost the ability to visit freely with one another and, in some cases, to go outside our homes. And some people have lost their lives while others have lost the opportunity to be with people who are dying or grieving. One of the lasting legacies of this pandemic can be an increased ability to support one another in our grief. 🎙 In this episode, our host, Micheal Pope, will explore the anxiety vis-à-vis the COVID-19 vaccine and how to cope with it. With COVID-19 first being reported just a year ago, many people are concerned about if a vaccine developed in such a short time frame can indeed be safe. And without years of trials, it is difficult to predict long-term side effects. Most people, especially healthcare workers, have been living and working with high degrees of uncertainty for a long time now. The state of the pandemic changes daily, and government officials' recommendations fluctuate as well, so it's understandable to feel hesitant about the vaccine in its first phase beyond trials. While waiting for more evidence on the vaccine and guidance from government officials, it's essential to manage your stress and anxiety. Do your research. The CDC's website is a great place to start. Stay up to date. Be careful not to get sucked into consuming too much news or social media – stick to a vetted vaccine tracker.Think about the benefits compared to the risks.Make decisions in your best interest. This week, we’re discussing how to find joy and meaning as we grow older. Our guest, Dr Margaret Rutherford says, “Many articles that focus on living well in midlife preach the importance of keeping the “oomph” in your step. They feature people who have changed careers from stock broker to sculptor at 50, walked the Appalachian trail at 60, or learned how to skydive at 70.” The message is clear. “Don’t allow your age to limit your potential.” We baby boomers have not been rule-bound by much, so it seems natural that we would be challenging the stereotype of “older people.” But what about the energy involved in maintaining your joy in life, when you’re experiencing natural losses from growing older? What about the courage to confront apathy, and to keep caring about what is going on around you? Some big questions that Dr. Rutherford is here to help us uncover. SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel. End of life care is something we all face, yet too many people are dying in a way they wouldn't choose, leaving loved ones feeling burdened, guilty, and uncertain. While we desire to have our health care wishes honored and not be a burden, many of us fail to have "the conversation" with loved ones about what those wishes are before treatment or unforeseen decisions must be made. Aging in place is defined by the Centers for Disease Control as "the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level." The value of aging in place is recognized more now than ever before. Today, with families scattered, the responsibility for the details of care can be overwhelming. With so much to consider on a daily basis, it's easy for important needs to get lost in the mix. Elder financial abuse is being called the fastest growing area of crime in America. And it may be happening in your family, if you aren't paying attention to a caregiver -- or a relative -- who, under the guise of being helpful, is siphoning off an elderly person's life savings. This issue no doubt affects seniors across all socio-economic groups, cultures, and races. It is a major problem that is expected to grow dramatically with the aging of our population. “I Am Somebody” is a spiritually nourishing book by poet/author Frances H. Kakugawa - that is also likely to be healing for people who lack the words to describe their caregiving experiences, both past and present, and the range of emotions that accompany those experiences. Her message is a powerful one: Despite all the demands and burdens that caring for someone with dementia entail, the bottom line is never to forget that person’s humanity. The care recipient may no longer have the memories, abilities and personality that he or she once did, but there is a soul within that body that responds to and is deserving of love and compassion. The consumer marketplace has been overwhelmingly youth-obsessed for decades, but this is about to change dramatically – and in ways that will spotlight a traditionally-overlooked upside of aging. Baby Boomers are transforming aging. This 78 million-strong generation has unrivaled amounts of money to spend, and they control 77% of the total net worth of US households. Even though they are largely ignored by advertisers, they represent 50% of all discretionary spending power. What does this all mean? Join host Micheal Pope for an insightful hour with Richard Eisenberg, Assistant Managing Editor of PBS’s Nextavenue.org who says, “Everybody talks about the problems the aging of America is creating, real and otherwise (stress on Social Security, older workers keep younger workers from moving up…) But some noted experts say we are looking at this all wrong." What is happening in retirement communities, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes? You might imagine quiet reading, crossword puzzles, bingo, maybe some shuffleboard. Think again. Think about sex – unsafe sex. Much as a society might prefer to see older adults as asexual, the rates of STDs among older adults are climbing. Despite rising infections, gay and lesbian older adults remain an invisible population. Yet sex goes on anyway. HIV/AIDS is not just an LGBT issue but a community issue as well. Terri Clark (Action Aids) & Robert Espinoza (SAGE) address these health disparities among marginalized populations, as well as offer important steps to advance health equity for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. On an airplane, an oxygen mask descends in front of you. What do you do? As we all know, the first rule is to put on your own oxygen mask before you assist anyone else. Only when we first help ourselves can we effectively help others. Caring for yourself is one of the most important—and one of the most often forgotten—things you can do as a caregiver. When your needs are taken care of, the person you care for will benefit, too. Whether or not you want to consider it one, being a caregiver is a job. It’s physically and mentally draining and it is important that you reward yourself in order to stay sane. Take a vacation every now and then, or at least dedicate a few hours a week to you. Go for a walk or shopping; read a book, listen to music, go out with friends, etc. It doesn’t matter what you do or for how long; even if it’s only for a few minutes, take time for you.
