Today my guest is Dr. Candace Good, she is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and author of the newly released book, Own Your Present: A Psychiatrist’s Guide to Mindful Meditation and Living a More Conscious Lifestyle a book full of anecdotes and activities, and totally user-friendly for those of us who are new to mindfulness as a way of life.

Dr. Good has been practicing psychiatry for over 15 years and she got to the point that she was feeling depleted and was not able to keep up, developing chronic stress. Dr. Good was experiencing high functioning anxiety and even though she was successful on many levels, she was having to manage lots of anxious thoughts and feeling off and defective. Dr. Good started doing meditation and proactively making the shift to stop living a life where we often find ourselves reacting to stress rather than pausing to appreciate the moment.

I'm joined this week by Heather Ivany, renowned holistic practitioner teaching yoga, meditation, and Akashic reading. Heather has been offering private and public classes, workshops, and retreats for over 20 years. Heather had a career as a firefighter when she decided to teach herself yoga by reading The Woman’s Book of Yoga and Health by Linda Sparrowe. She went on to yoga teacher training in Victoria, B.C. The study of yoga has helped Heather to develop a softer, more feminine side of herself, contrasting with the more masculine energy she cultivated before. Today I am so excited to share with you the top three things I learned from attending Tony Robbins’ live event: Unleash the Power Within & Business Mastery! I truly believe it can really shift your point of view, can help you create a breakthrough, and possibly save you tons of time, and even thousands of dollars! 1- Importance of your State: The number one thing that Tony Robbins talks about is how important your state is. Tony Robbins’ philosophy is that everything starts with your state. Everything starts with your physiology, how you feel, how you are standing, how you breathe because that state creates that momentum that will give you the fuel to take motivated action! 2- The Personal Story: The story is the personal narrative, it often keeps us from finding the keys that can help us be most effective and transform the quality of our life. If you ever find yourself in a low state, think of what you're grateful for and feel it in your heart, put yourself into a good state and then go crush your goals. Get yourself in a better state first and then replace the old story with a more empowering story! 3- The New Strategy: The third and most important thing is a new strategy. How do I get to that result? Implement a new strategy! No more trial and error, instead look for human resources, talk to experts, take that class; figure out what they're doing that makes them be on top of their game. Take that recipe that you've learned implement it in your life and then go get the results that you want. There is so much to learn from Tony Robbins and from his books and workshops. In today’s episode of the Balanced Being Podcast, I want to talk about two concepts that stayed with me after attending an orthodontic conference called Orthoprenuers, I attended with my wife. Here are two concepts that resonated with me: Robin Sharma uses the abbreviation ABL (Always Be Learning). And this is the first concept that I want to share. People have the capacity to keep on learning even if they are making enough money and are successful. So, invest your time to learn a new skill and evolve. The concept of proximity resonance: You become the average of five people you surround yourself with. These people challenge you, think big, get the results you want, and are doing something substantial with their lives. When you put yourself around such people you will feel uncomfortable and change the way you have been doing things. It will force you to think differently. It will force you to take massive action. If you can do these three correctly, you will become the average of all these five. So, think about the five people you are around, and if they are helping you push yourself to achieve your goals. In today’s episode of “Balanced Being Podcast”, I want to share my experience with a very interesting workshop by Robin Sharma. I attended this training session and at the end of it, he asked the attendees to do something very fascinating. He asked us to think about the last day of our lives and how we would want to be remembered. This question was not meant to set a somber mood but to really make us think! So, I thought I should talk about it in today’s episode. When it is the last day of your life, how do you want to be remembered? Work backward and determine the personality traits you want to inculcate and how do you want to use them to help others? Undertake this exercise by writing down or just thinking about it. It will help you get perspective, think about things that matter, and remove those that don’t. Once you have written this down, you can act upon it.
