· Hiring a legal team doesn’t just mean they have experience; they also need a proven track record of successfully defending cases like yours.

Another reason why a well-written Personal Narrative could influence your probation officer.

· Before Supervised Release, your Probation Officer (PO) will have inspected your future home and reviewed your BOP file, which includes your Presentence Report (PSR).

· If you have not written a narrative, all they will read is Your INDICTMENT – which isn’t that flattering.

· But with your NARRATIVE written and weaved into your PSR (and attached), your PO may have a slightly better view of who you (as a person) are.

· Remember they have a large caseload, and you are one of many persons they supervise. Make it easier for them to judge who you are.

· For most, you could be under supervision for several years.

· It would be much easier for all if your PO read a file from the BOP that included your Personal Narrative, which you wrote.

· This officer will review your PSR (Presentence Report) beforehand and come to a preconceived notion of who you are.

· This is one more reason why having your NARRATIVE and Release Plan embedded and attached to your Presentence Report (PSR) is helpful to ensure a successful supervised release.

· This is one more reason to know who your stakeholders are, how they view you, and their expectations.
Probation officers are essential to your transition back into society during supervised release.

· If you own your own business and want to be self-employed, you can be if your job or company was not involved in your Charge.

· But you may not be allowed to be the boss until you are off supervised release. Instead, whoever has been running the business can hire you at a ‘normal wage’ and earn the confidence of the PO that they will be available onsite or by phone as needed. You will be available onsite during your shift for unscheduled visits.

· Some of your short-term responsibilities include being available should they call or stop by any time.

· In the long term, you must stay out of trouble, you may be drug tested regularly, you must not have firearms, and you must complete a financial form monthly.
