In December 1999, Sean "Diddy" Combs, then dating Jennifer Lopez, was involved in a shooting at a New York City nightclub. While both were arrested, charges were eventually dropped against Combs and Lopez, but witnesses placed the blame on another member of their party: Moses "Shyne" Barrow, a rapper signed to Combs' label, Bad Boy Records. Barrow was subsequently convicted on five charges and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He even made public appearances with Combs, performing alongside him as recently as November 2023. Barrow, breaking his silence, claims Combs orchestrated his downfall, stating, "I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He pretty much sent me to prison".
