Manage episode 373801653 series 3291282
This week’s episode addresses one of those hard, but necessary topics: trauma. I was introduced to Leigh Mackenzie through a mutual friend, Mabel Ninan. She published the book She Seems So Normal: Shatter the Plastic Princess, Embrace Authentic Faith where she shares the need for authenticity and shares her story of overcoming the trauma of abuse.
We discussed:
- Leigh’s discovery of her need for trauma therapy and how that ignited her to tell her story
- The process she went through to become transparent instead of shallow
- The the church’s need to be a safe place for people to heal from trauma
- Forgiving instigators and enablers of abuse
- Psalm 23:4 and the healing influence Jesus’ role as a shepherd has on her life
- Evaluating what safe looks like in someone to share traumatic experiences with
- Journaling and the processing the good things that happen in our lives
- Our process of staying connected to the Lord through His Word
