Josh Trank is back with Capone, his first movie since 2015's ill-fated Fantastic Four. I was eager to see how Trank, who struck a chord with his debut film Chronicle, might attempt at redeeming himself and taking back the creative reigns of his own career. Instead, his pure vision (Trank is credited as Director, Writer, and Editor) produced a disgusting, disjointed and barely watchable snooze that somehow manages to make the legendary gangster boring. We never get to meet Capone or any of his family or loved ones before he has lost his mind and body to neurosyphilis, so his only actions consist of vile bodily excretions, and delusional rantings delivered in comical grunts by Tom Hardy, who does all he can to redeem the movie as the titular Alphonse Capone. Forget it, Tom - this is Redbox, the bizarro anti-Netflix where films with no redeeming value go to get financed and produced. This is Josh Trank, unadulterated and unfiltered, and it reeks.
