On October 16, 2024, the Menendez family held a press conference in Los Angeles to advocate for the possible re-sentencing of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. Members from both Kitty and José's families emphasized that the brothers, now in prison for over three decades, committed the crime as a result of years of severe abuse by their father.
