In this episode, we delve into the profound ways in which religion and a personal relationship with God can marry and together help us better understand and appreciate God’s character and experience deeper spiritual growth. Join us as we explore the transformative power of faith, the importance of spiritual practices, and the benefits of religion in a world where religion is often experienced as oppressive versus freeing.

Scriptures Referenced:

  • God of Order in Exodus Chapters 20-30, 35-
    • God meets Moses and gives the Ten Commandments and other laws regarding altars, sacrifices, oils, and garments among many other things. This shows God’s heart and desire for order, details, and rituals.
    • “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.” This is the same God we are now able to have an intimate relationship with, no longer subject to stay outside of the tent of meeting, but have been ushered in and have a relationship with the God of Glory.
  • Leviticus outlines laws and structures set in place for the sanctification, separation, and protection of God’s people. We see clear order, procedures, and rituals and begin to get a picture of the holiness of God.
  • Matthew 18:15-20 Jesus talks about order in how to respond to a brother who has sinned against you.
  • Colossians 3:18-4:5 Instruction on how to operate in a Christian household defining order and expectations. Note that before this passage we are told to put off “worldly wisdom and spiritual rituals that are a man-made religion” God’s religion is made of the Spirit and creates in us a pure heart and calls us to walk in the Spirit versus the flesh. Col. 2:20-23
  • 1 Corinthians 14:26-33 “For God is not a God of confusion but a God of peace” There should be wisdom and order in our worship and how we operate as a body. It is not supposed to be a free-for-all.
  • The book of Titus. This New Testament Letter outlines order and how we should operate in our religion, another example of how we are called to a measure of accountability, rituals, and reflection of God’s character.
