In this heartfelt episode of The Caring Economy, we sit down with Lynne Hughes, the inspiring founder and CEO of Comfort Zone Camp (CZC). By the age of 12, Lynne had tragically lost both of her parents, leaving her to navigate the complex world of grief as a child. But out of her personal loss came a powerful mission: to help grieving children find a safe space to heal and be kids again.

Comfort Zone Camp, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, is the nation’s first nonprofit bereavement camp designed specifically for children and families who have lost loved ones. To date, CZC has served over 24,000 children, offering them hope, community, and the tools to cope with grief. From the aftermath of 9/11 to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, CZC has been a lifeline for children and families dealing with unimaginable loss.

In this episode, Lynne shares her personal story of loss, the founding of CZC, and the importance of giving children the support they need to grieve. We explore how Comfort Zone Camp has grown over the years, its unique approach to helping children heal, and why more people should be talking about grief, especially when it comes to young people.

Tune in to learn more about:

  • Lynne’s personal journey through childhood loss and grief.
  • The founding and evolution of Comfort Zone Camp over the past 25 years.
  • CZC’s impact on children affected by 9/11, COVID-19, overdose, and suicide loss.
  • The powerful role of community and shared experiences in healing.
  • Why more conversations about grief are necessary, especially for young people.

This episode is a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of community. Don’t miss it!
