From June, 1962 through January, 1964, women in the city of Boston lived in fear of the infamous Strangler. Over those 19 months, he committed 13 known murders-crimes that included vicious sexual assaults and bizarre stagings of the victims' bodies. In this episode, Jenn and Daren mark World Mental Health Day (October 10) with a much needed mental health check-in. As the season changes, temperatures drop, and the state of the world is constantly changing, it is important that we check-in with ourselves and with each other to make sure that we are each OK. They emphasize how the trauma of going through the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted marginalized communities especially in relationship with work. As employment has risen steeply we must keep in mind that 46% of U.S. workers who receive paid time off from their employer take less time than they are offered and Black workers are almost twice as likely than White workers to say that they take less time off for fear of losing their job. We need to change our way of thinking around taking time off. It is a necessity. Do it for your mental health. We do “adult” differently. We are That Black Couple. Our goal is to create a space for Black millennials to discuss and embody adult life on their own terms. We aren’t beholden to “traditional” gender or parenting roles, queerness is fluid and present in the ways we show up in our relationships and in the world, and we want to build community with other 30-something Black folx who are trying to figure this ish out.
