T.O. Podcast #22 Eduard Swanepoel: Politcal Science [English]
Edward is doing his Master's thesis on South African politics regarding land appropriation at Stellenbosch University, South Africa at he moment. He resides outside London, UK where he works as a researcher for the British Labour Party. How I came across him? A friend of mine said his cousin is staying with him. I asked him what his cousin is up to and he responded by saying Political Science. I instantly though of having him on the podcast. Turns out, we know many mutual people and went to the same university and classes - at the same time!!! Political Science for me is one of those subject which few people did at university. I never had much use for it. I did 3 years of it. Hearing of someone whom not only did it - is doing it - but likes it, I wanted to get their opinion on it. I also feel people with a background in educational politics tends to be able to having more rational, in-depth and mutual debates and discussions about one of the taboo topics namely politics. I had a great time talking to Eduard and love his outlook on many things. I hope you enjoy! Here are the questions I asked Eduard: 1) What does your job in the UK entail for the Labour Party? 2) What is political science and is it really a science? 3) What use does businesses, governments, institutions and people have for political science? 4) What does BREXIT mean? What are pros & cons? What is your personal take on it? How did it get decided? Which institutions are involved i.e. the European Union? 5) Did your university degree help prepare you for doing your job? 6) What aspect of political science intersts you the most? 7) Which political system do you like the most and why? 8) Which ideology do you like the most and why? 9) Which country implements democracy the best? 10) What is your opinion on the current South African political climate? What is your opinion on the EFF, ANC and DA? How can individuals get involved with politics namely civil society? PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT positive or negative feedback if you like or dislike our discussion as a whole, or certain parts of it.
