After a young woman comes in with birth complications a nurse (Watts) delivers her baby and finds a mysterious diary among the woman’s things after she passes away from complications of the birth. Once she has the Russian text in the diary translated she’s sucked into a whirlwind of Russian mafia ties. All the while Nikolai (Mortensen) is trying to keep her away from him and his boss while he rises through the ranks of the crime family he works for.The movie is not your typical crime syndicate thriller but it definitely has plenty to offer in the realm of organized crime. I mean it gets about as real as can be when the fight in the bath house ensues, not to mention all of the other violence along the way.Grab a bottle of Russia’s best and have a listen, das vadanya.
