In this wholesome and uplifting episode of Sukany4 - The Podcast, we take a scenic walk around Fell Foot Park with Neil Fleming, a true pillar of the Cumbrian community. Neil shares his journey from Scotland to Cumbria in 1987, meeting his wife in Barrow, and settling down in this beautiful county to raise a family. We explore his passion for volunteer work, from organizing the legendary K2B/C2B charity walks to running the Retro Rendezvous festival in Ulverston, which celebrates vintage cycling with 500 participants, and so much more on top of that. Stay tuned as Neil emphasises how anyone can make a difference by simply showing up—no need for flair or extroversion. We also dive into his remarkable work supporting the vulnerable during COVID and the well deserved celebration of his voluntary services, and even how he helped put Ulverston in the Guinness World Records! Tune in for an inspiring conversation that celebrates community, volunteerism, and making a positive impact without needing to be in the spotlight. Keywords: Cumbria, community, volunteer work, charity, K2B, Ulverston, introvert, Guinness World Record, local festivals, family.
Note from Neil: Sukanya, a couple of comments for accuracy. In the conversation, the number I quoted for the population of Ulverston was too high. LA12 is a big area, and of course if responding to a major incident, we have to include visitors, contractors, vehicles on the A590, Hotel & Air B&B occupants etc, so it very much depends on what you're wanting the number for, but the resident population is much smaller than what I stated. Secondly, I am a Trustee at Ford Park, but the Ford Park website is managed by the Ford Park staff on behalf of the Trustees, not by me or any of the Trustees.
