Passage
James 2:16
ESV (English Standard Version)
"And one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, be warmed and filled,' without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?"
NLT (New Living Translation)
"And you say, 'Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well'—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?"
NIV (New International Version)
"If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?"
Ask Yourself
"How can I provide tangible, holistic support to someone facing poverty this week, recognizing that their needs are multifaceted?"
Walk it Out
Reflect
- As you go through your week, take the time to reflect and meditate on James 2:16. Consider how you can move from words to action in supporting those in need. Journal your thoughts and plans to provide multifaceted support to someone experiencing poverty.
Engage
- Identify a need in your community that you can help meet in a tangible way. This could be providing a meal, offering your time, or lending a listening ear. Make a concrete plan to engage with someone in need and take action to help them.
Pray
- Pray for those suffering from the multifaceted challenges of poverty, asking God to bring them comfort and relief in their times of distress.
- Pray for yourself to be moved to compassionate action, asking God to equip you to meet real needs with love and sincerity.
- Pray for your community to become a place where holistic care and genuine support are provided, asking God to renew hearts and guide actions towards inclusivity and compassion.
