РЕКЛАМА
“I could be walking in Central Park and come up on one of these horse and buggies. I don't think twice about it because I see it as part of the New York attraction. You know, you have the Statue of Liberty, you have Times Square, and you have these romantic horse and buggy things where people get married in the park and they ride these carriages. And tourists, they take these rides in Central Park. It's romantic, it's something beautiful to see. But I never thought for one second that these horses are abused.” – Tracy Winston, juror from Ryder’s trial New York City has a big, visible animal cruelty issue: horses forced to pull carriages, carrying heavy loads for long hours in all types of weather in the middle of chaotic traffic. Three years ago, a carriage horse named Ryder was a victim of this cruelty. He collapsed on a Manhattan street after being worked for hours in the summer heat. Two months later, he was euthanized. His story sparked global outrage. Ryder’s driver, Ian McKeever, was charged with animal cruelty The trial took place a few weeks ago, but McKeever was ultimately acquitted. This conversation is with Edita Birnkrant, the Executive Director of NYCLASS and Tracy Winston, one of the jurors from Ryder's trial. New York’s weak and outdated animal protection laws have not changed since Ryder died— and because of this, another avoidable death that occurred just a week after we recorded this interview. On August 5th, a horse named Lady died while pulling a carriage in Manhattan. This conversation is about accountability, about corruption and about what happens when justice fails the most vulnerable. It's too late for Ryder and Lady. But it is not too late to act. If you live in New York, please call your City Council members and tell them it’s time to bring Ryder’s Law, Intro 967, up for a vote and pass this vital bill to protect carriage horses from suffering and death on the city’s streets. A comedy podcast about the Tudors and 1500s shenanigans. It's educational, we swear. But mostly funny. Hosted by Emily Simpson and Garrett Kaser. Produced by Jeffrey Simpson.

WE'RE BACK! The dark version of Forrest Gump was named Richard Rich. We discuss this man's insane escapades in Henry VIII's court, trying to figure out what he actually cared about and whether he had any real religious beliefs. Find on Facebook , Twitter @tudorknowher , and Instagram
We get spooky with a special Halloween episode and chat about some creepy occurrences.
Today we talk about the government system in the Tudor times, which really is not much different from today's surprisingly.
On the heels of our visit to the Renaissance Faire, we discuss what jousts and tournaments entailed for the Tudors.
Not all English involvement with the Middle East were crusades. Some Tudor monarchs realized that getting involved with the Ottoman and Saffavid empires led to money (and also screwed the Spanish).
History knows her as the Nine Days Queen, but we know her as the inventor of BDSM (probably).
It did. We discuss how exactly little England managed to defend itself from the powerful Armada. Also we decide on a new podcast.
We celebrate 100 episodes of Tudor, I Hardly Know her by discussing the impact of the Tudors.
We finally sit down to learn about Thomas More, who had a good run of it until Henry cut off his head.
Apparently the rest of the world had some stuff going on yoo during the Tudor reign, so we chat about that and flat earthers.
Today we talk about the awesome Bess of Hardwick, who hosted a great late-night game show and also survived the Tudor reign.
Today, in one of our more serious episodes, we discuss the lives of black Tudors.
We talk about the martyr Anne Askew (the topic may have been slightly repeated, but the jokes are all new!)
Catherine of Aragon had an adventurous childhood. Don't worry, she experienced a lot of sad stuff, too.
You asked and we delivered. We sat down to watch the first episodes of The Spanish Princess, and boy do we have some thoughts.
Emily got to see Six The Musical in Chicago, and, spoilers, it was so amazing. Hoping Henry the Baeth makes an appearance in the extended version. P.S. make sure to listen to the end for fun treats.
Henry VIII, International Man of Mystery, had quite a few wives. But he almost had more! Or at least different wives. So who were these women who narrowly escaped what was sure to be an unhappy marriage?
Love 'em or Cleve 'em. The 1540s had some serious gossip going on about Anne of Cleves, and some modern historians are just adding to the crazy.
Jeff and Garrett offer their thoughts on popular Anne Boleyn theories and questions, including whether she did have that extra finger and if she really loved Henry.
Anne Boleyn's life may have ended with the swing of a sword, but her ladies still had to deal with the details of her burial, which Henry so kindly ignored. Plus, what became of that famous "B" necklace?
We continue our Anne Boleyn month but talking about Anne's youth in the courts of some of the most fascinating women of these time.

We finally sit down to discuss The Other Boleyn Girl. What did Garrett and Jeff think? Why was Phillipa Gregory so free with history? How on earth was the movie so bad? Listen to find out!
We discuss a variety of Tudor topics, including Tudor myths and folklore.
Anne Boleyn certainly had a thing for men named Henry. We chat about Henry Percy, Anne Boleyn’s one-time-love-interest.
We’re back! Once again, we discuss Mary, Queen of Scots. But this time, we talk about the movie! Hear what Emily thought of the story, costume, actresses, and more! Notes: FutureLearn course on the Tudors https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/the-tudors
Tonight, on Unsolved Mysteries: we discuss Amy Robsart’s unfortunate and mysterious death. Was Robert involved? Did Queen Elizabeth have her romantic rival put to death? We will look into this and more, on Unsolved Mysteries. (Cue creepy music that haunts everyone.)

Tudor, I Hardly Know Her

We celebrate Halloween by discussing how the Tudors celebrated Halloween and what a funeral would have looked like.
We talk about how the Tudors used propaganda to their advantage. There’s a fun chat at the start about history and history education. Jump to 19:30 to get straight to Tudors!
Catherine of Aragon had so much opportunity - daughter of a warrior queen, engaged to a future king. And then men continuously let her down. Men suck. We discuss Catherine’s time in England as a widow.
We chat about all those love letters Henry sent to Anne Boleyn while trying to convince her that she would seriously be his ONLY mistress, babe, I swear.
We explore alternate show titles and discuss the Duke of Buckingham, the one guy Henry VIII executed who probably deserved it.
We celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Flodden by recapping how Katherine of Aragon kicked Scottish ass, plus the battle that caused an over-dramatic King to die. Plus, Emily gives you an overview of two Tudor books she just finished!
Today we talk about the clearly time-traveling fool Will Somers and (because seriously the only way to survive that court was to know ahead of time what would happen).
We chat about the roles servants played in the Tudor palaces and how things were actully pretty nice for them.
We chat about Elizabeth’s efforts to take over the world. And of course we discuss the new Mary Queen of Scots trailer.
Today we chat about some of the well-known Catholic and Protestant martyrs from the Tudor era.
We talk about how England transitioned from their last Tudor monarch to James I.
Ireland during the Tudor time wasn’t exactly a peaceful time. We chat about the many rebellions and a badass lady pirate of Ireland.
Today we chat about Arbella Stuart, who may have become queen after Elizabeth, and how those succession laws worked anyway.
Today we discuss the very interesting life of John Dee, famous for being super smart and also speaking to angels. Of course.
