Can AI compress the years long research time of a PhD into seconds? Research scientist Max Jaderberg explores how “AI analogs” simulate real-world lab work with staggering speed and scale, unlocking new insights on protein folding and drug discovery. Drawing on his experience working on Isomorphic Labs' and Google DeepMind's AlphaFold 3 — an AI model for predicting the structure of molecules — Jaderberg explains how this new technology frees up researchers' time and resources to better understand the real, messy world and tackle the next frontiers of science, medicine and more. The podcast is three years old! As a celebration, Dom once again sat down with Dr Daniel Kenealy to do a deepdive into the works of Steven Spielberg. In this bumper discussion, there's a whole range of things to dissect, from what Spielberg means to us, the eras of his filmography, hits hits and misses, the influence of John Williams- before an Oscars style award giving for his filmography. Dom does give a little summation at the end on his feelings after three years of doing the pod, but ultimately, its just a very big thank you. Thank you for engaging, for your enthusiasm and support, and thank you for listening. Enjoy the podcast!…

Following on from last week in this second part of the discussion, Dom and Dan talk through the big one- their best picture. They rank their favourite films of the year from 10-1, and also take a look forward at what's coming up this year. As you might expect, both lists have stuff from absolutely all over the place, so if you're stuck for what to watch, this may well be the episode for you! Thanks very much for downloading, and enjoy! :)…

Welcome to season 4 of The Reel Life Podcast! In this episode, Dom sits down with one of his university lecturers, Dr Daniel Kenealy, to discuss all things Oscars. Reviewing the ceremony, and the direction of all the awards. Dan is a real cineast, and so there was much to discuss- hence this is part one of this discussion. Next week, in part two, each will reveal their list of top 10 films of the year, before divulging into a chat about whats coming up and what to look forward to. In the meantime, enjoy this bumper chat about the year in film. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for downloading the podcast! :)…
It's awards time! Join Dom for a celebration and rundown of the year's greatest cinematic events, as we give out the Bajoria's Should Have Won Awards- an accolade that becomes ever more prestigious with every year. This year, Dom also manages to catch a few interviews with some of the nominees on the red carpet, before giving his predictions for the Oscars, and revealing where the awards should go. (Dom does talk about an actual conversation he had with Academy Award nominated writer Peter Straughan, writer of Conclave). These episodes always take that extra bit of effort (I hope you like the new music!) so if you can, please share the episode with anyone who might listen. Thank you very much for downloading the podcast and sticking with it all through season 3, I'll see you very soon as we dive into season 4. Enjoy! :)…
In this episode, Dom is once again joined by Kuba in a discussion brought about as a result of Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain. This time, the chat is around the pair's 5 favourite films where the runtime clocks in at 90 minutes or under, the films that give you that little bit more time in your day to procrastinate by some other means. A very wide variety of films is discussed, from the devastating to the ridiculous, from Japan, to Poland, to Manchester. Dom and Jakub also take a look at A Real Pain and talk through why it works, and why its ending is exactly the kind of thing they love. Its the first episode of 2025 and we are approaching awards season, which can only mean one thing- the BSHWAs are on the horizon. Thank you very much for downloading the podcast, and enjoy!…

In this festive special, Dom is joined by three people for the first time to discuss nothing remotely Christmassy at all. Fun chat though. Together with Zac, Ella and Nameer, a huge range of films are discussed as everyone lists their 5 favourite film characters of all time. From notorious film icons to rogue shouts, horror to Rom-Com, there is a lot to unpack as everyone dissects their lists. Thank you so much for listening across 2024, it's been really nice to see people enjoying the podcast. Thank you for downloading, and I'll see you again in the new year. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals :)…
In this episode, Dom talks through his thoughts on seven recent titles he had the chance to catch and dissect. There is a wide range of films from blockbuster to arthouse psychological horror, in what is proving to be an intriguing year for film. Dom talks through his thoughts on Gladiator II, Alien: Romulus, Starve Acre, Woman of the Hour, Joker: Folie a Deux, Speak No Evil and Conclave. Some are a bit of a let down, some are a good bit of fun and one is competing very hard to be Dom's film of the year. There will be one more big episode before Christmas with many people and a big topic, so look out for that. In the meantime, thank you very much for downloading the podcast, and enjoy!…

In this episode, Dom and Roddy sit down to talk through the films which stuck with them most since childhood. Even more subjective than usual, the variety of films discussed is actually quite broad. Roddy has some... unusual inclusions, and Dom lists some (slightly low-level) films you would not expect to be buried in a cineast's heart. I hope you enjoy, and thank you for downloading the podcast!…
In this episode, Dom and Kuba sit down again to dissect an experience which throws both of their lists of worst films from last time into disrepute. Having both had the severe misfortune of spending 2 hours and 18 minutes viewing Francis Ford Coppola's latest offering, 'Megalopolis', the pair talk through why it has earned the title, in their view, of the worst film ever made. This could have been another hour longer, as every single element of the $120 million effort misses the mark by a very long way indeed. This one is essentially an hour long hatchet job, quite rightly so. Thank you very much for downloading the podcast, it means a lot. Enjoy!…

In this episode, Dom is joined by Kuba for a discussion celebrating some of the worst films or most disappointing cinema experinces the two have had, in honour or Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis being met by some horrendous reviews. Much in the way of poor filmmaking is assessed, from severe sequel disappointment to completely forgettable plotlines, and of course, Jared Leto. If you love a good hatchet job, this one is for you. In this episode, and this years Edinburgh Fringe edition, Dom is joined by Roddy and Amelia to talk through the best animated works of Disney and Pixar. Much is discussed from the timelessness of the Disney 2D style, the impact these films had on everyone's childhood vs how you see them as adults, an idea for a fringe show which would either be hailed as genius or given the red light after sentence number one, and the strange circumstances surrounding Disney merchandise and the birth of Roddy's siblings. Roddy has music out which is well worth a listen, stream 'All I Know' now and presave 'Manhatten' whilst you're at it. Thank you to Roddy and Amelia for joining, and thank you for downloading the podcast. Enjoy!…

In this episode, Dom and his sister sit down to dissect the most recent iteration of Doctor Who following the return of Russel T Davies. The pair talk through its merits alongside its heavy shortcomings, and use their upsettingly nerdy knowledge of New Who to do so. In a (perhaps overly) long discussion, much is assessed in the aim of working out how to fix the show, and how its tonal change has shifted what the show now is. Plenty more episodes to come, and it'll be back to films next. Thank you for listening!…

In this extra-long episode, Dom is joined again by his sister to give a thorough talk through of the Harry Potter franchise. The pair attempt to rank all the films from 1-8 (more succesfully on one account than the other), and discuss why it sets itself apart from other franchises in terms of success and quality. It's a little all over the place, but they get there in the end. These films don't seem to have an obvious ranking, as everyone has a different order- and that is evident in this discussion too. Thank you for listening and enjoy!…
In this episode, Dom delves into the themes and elements which make David Mackenzie's 2016 film Hell or High Water one of his absolute favourites. This is the first of a new series of episodes in which Dom talks through some of his standout favourite films. In a more politically in-depth analysis than normal, Dom talks through why the films initial Trumpian label is misguided, and the film actually presents a neoliberal evil. The film also covers views of heritage, land, obsoletion, capitalism and masculinity. Hopefully it isn't too nerdy and convoluted a discussion and goes some why to explaining how Taylor Sheridan has written what could seem to be a straightforward neo-western, but is actually something far more nuanced and intricate. Thank you for listening!…
The podcast turns two years old! (A few days ago) In this episode, Dom talks through Luca Guadagnino's recent hit ' Challengers ', and its wildly hightened and entertaining story. In conjunction with this, Dom also dives into the question of why efficiency and conciseness is important in cinema, and why indulgence often lets films down. Interestingly, ' Challengers ' isn't actually particularly indulgent, but certain elements to lend itself to the discussion. As a result, Dom also covers other recent titles like ' Babylon ', along with broader discussions about Quentin Tarantino and the most recent incarnations of 'Doctor Who' . Thank you so much for all the support over the last two years, it has been genuinely heartwarming. Enjoy the podcast!…

In this episode, Dom and Michael reconvene to discuss part two of Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. This is Michael's THING, like we only just scratch the surface here, so Michael leads the episode in talking about how well the film does in translating the content of the book to the big screen. Dom, having not read the book, sits back, but also comes back to his now altered ranking of Villenueve's work. There's plenty of (what is hopefully not too deep and dense) discussion of the themes and the events of the film, also taking a cinematic look at the film and relating it to part one. The basic premise is- it's really quite good. Full spoiler warning in effect as usual, so if you haven't seen Dune Part 2 then do go and find a huge screen to watch it. Any feedback appreciated as normal, and thank you for downlaoding the podcast!…
It's that special time of year again when the black ties come out to play and everyone gathers round the TV to see who will win the most prestigious award in film- the Bajoria's what Should Have Won Awards. Dom talks through his winners in the major categories at the upcoming Oscars, giving his verdict on where the Oscars will go and who the real winners are. In a spectacular year for film, the decisions this year were not remotely easy, but there is much to be happy about the state of cinema in 2024. As always, thank you for downloading the podcast, this took a lot of so any positive feedback @dombajoria or sharing of the podcast is greatly appreciated. Enjoy!…

Merry Christmas! In this epsiode, Dom is joined by his sister, a professional actor no less! The two discuss their favourite actors, favourite recent performances, what makes acting good vs what makes it great, and broader film chat. There is a notable lack of festive content- in that there isn't any, but in a more unstructured chat than normal, there's plenty to enjoy. The podcast will be back around the New Year, as always thank you for downloading!…
In this episode, Dom talks through the merits and negatives of two recent Netflix projects: Wes Anderson's Roald Dahl adaptations, and Season 4 of Sex Education. In a revisit to the 1 Good 1 Bad format, Dom talks through the fascinating new style of story telling developed by Wes Anderson and the subtle beauty of his latest work. On the contrary, the confused and thin mess of the final season of Sex Education is displayed through a bit of a classic-style rant. Thank you for downloading the podcast! Feedback and suggestions as always appreciated.…

In this festive episode, Dom and Jakub (Kuba) discuss their top three favourite Christmas movies. This is a topic more subjective than most, prompting arguments a plenty across dining tables, but be ready for some surprises along the way. The pair discuss the big Christmas film questions, the festive nature of the 2nd ammendment (sort of) and the polish re-naming of films becoming slightly baffling. Dom will be back for one more episode before the new year, hope you enjoy listening and thanks for downloaing the podcast!…

In this episode, Dom and Michael discuss the best works of Denis Villeneuve. The pair dive into the overarching themes of his films, his particular techniques and Michael is unleashed on his love of sci-fi. In this episode, Dom delves deeper into the beginning of the discussion held with Drew over Marvel. In this episode, Dom runs through some of the films loved by many which he finds extremely difficult to get along with. As well as this, the final part of the discussion (somehow) turns into a philosophical spiel on film criticism as a whole. @bajoriadom on twitter for any feedback, and thank you for downloading the podcast!…
In this episode, Dom is joined by his friend Will and some squeaky chairs (apologies) to discuss the best films by one of the greatest all-time directors, David Fincher. The pair dive into his varying genres, his attention to detail and his meticulousness. This episode sounds like it was recorded in a church hall- it wasn't, there was just a mic issue. Apologies for that. As per, any feedback or suggestions, @bajoriadom on twitter, and thank you for downloading the podcast!…
In this episode, Dom is joined by Drew 'Elite Film' Blackett to discuss the merits of the best films from the MCU... sort of. (Spoiler) The pair also dive in on the discussion of Martin Scorsese's comments on Marvel films and them not being real cinema in his mind. Many thanks to Drew who recorded despite decent levels of sickness, and there were some slight techincal issues involving the potato Drew used to record this on, but hopefully you still enjoy it. As usual, any feedback, @bajoriadom on twitter, apologies for the delay between podcasts. Thank you for downloading the podcast!…

In this episode, Dom discusses Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End, which make up the "Cornetto Trilogy". In a slightly shorter discussion, Dom talks through Edgar Wright's techniques, the brilliant capacity for fun in these films, and why they resonate so strongly with audiences. This could have been a 4 hour long pod, however it was better to remain restrained rather than gush nonsense about how fantastically bad the AmDram society is. In this first ever virtually recorded episode, Dom is joined by his friend Roddy for another longer chat to discuss their top three horror films. The pair discuss the thematic and cinematic features that make these films stand out. A list of honourable mentions are also revealed, as well as a brief discussion on why horror as a genre is often overlooked by audiences. A post-recording note: Dom's number one film sits where it does due to the fact that it lends itself so brilliantly to rewatches, contains a fantastic through line and manages to remain fantastically scary as well. A brilliant film which was released at the perfect time in terms of developing Dom's film taste. As always, if you have any feedback, feel free to message @bajoriadom on twitter!
