202: Giving Voice to Marginalized Communities with Skyler Sullivan
Manage episode 407087650 series 3557657
In our first episode recorded LIVE and In Person, Rachelle talks with Skyler Sullivan, Director of Education & Outreach at Diversionary Theatre, the third-oldest LGBTQ+ theatre in the United States. Skyler shares his journey from a closeted, bullied kid to a Teaching Artist who works to uplift marginalized and queer voices in San Diego and across the U.S. He works with Diversionary to bring a wide range of arts-based programs to the community, ranging from school-aged youth, to college students, to local senior citizens. Rachelle and Skyler break down what it really means to meet your students where they are and how Skyler’s work and approaches have evolved as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and concurrent social justice uprisings. Listen to the end for some fun tid-bits about Skyler’s other work in therapeutic clowning.
