Manage episode 440385819 series 1431286
In this latest OIES podcast James Henderson talks to Bill Farren-Price about the latest Oxford Energy Forum which includes a series of articles under the banner “Gas to 2030: transition, supply risk and market uncertainty.” After an initial discussion about the key themes in the Forum, we delve into the geopolitical and regulatory risks that are likely to shape the future of the gas market, including the impact of climate policies and the energy transition. We then move to some more detailed topics including the prospects for exports from the East Mediterranean region, the outlook for Norwegian supply, Turkmenistan’s export plans and challenges and the future of US shale. Moving to the demand side we look at the uncertain future for gas in China and India, while also considering the more positive outlook for LNG in North-East Asia. We also discuss the impact of the REPowerEU plans in Europe and consider how renewables is replacing gas in the power sector. Finally, we look at some longer term transition scenarios, focusing on the likelihood of a fragmented transition and what this means for gas, before concluding on potential political drivers over the rest of this decade.
