In this video, Andrew Iacobelli, a personal injury lawyer with Iacobelli Law Firm, discusses what to do if you are a Canadian who gets injured while traveling in Florida.
1. Report the Accident Immediately to the Police
Just like an accident anywhere else in the world? The first thing you want to do is make sure it's reported to the police. You want a police report immediately to secure the evidence of what happened at the scene of the accident. This will also be beneficial when it comes time to file an insurance claim and bring claims for your injuries.
2. Get Medical Treatment or an Assessment Even If You Feel Fine
Get medical treatment as soon as possible, even if you feel fine after the motor vehicle accident.. Even though you're a Canadian and you're concerned about healthcare costs in the United States, your wellbeing is first and foremost. So we highly recommend that you do get treatment immediately. If you don't go to the hospital, you should at least go to an urgent care center and get checked out before you can make it back home to Canada.
Andrew will discuss the various healthcare coverage options for Canadians, including extended healthcare coverage through employers, spouse or family members, travel insurance, and auto insurance coverage.
3. Speak To A Lawyer As Soon As You Can
Speak to a lawyer as soon as you can. As daunting as US healthcare expenses might be, put your healthcare first and your wellbeing first and then let us help you get it paid for through the various avenues available to you as a Canadian.
Should you be speaking to a lawyer in Florida or in Canada? Having carved a unique niche for personal injury in both Canada and the United States, Andrew will discuss the benefits of speaking to a lawyer who assists Canadians on both sides of the border.
