Kristen V. Carter is a writer-producer and show runner in unscripted television. She has worked on productions with BET, HBO Max and Kevin Hart. Currently developing her own work as an independent contractor for award shows, magazine shows and fact-based entertainment, she also mentors youth and young adults. Kristen attended boarding school through an initiative supported by Oprah Winfrey, A Better Chance, and because of those inspiring grades 8-12, Kristen now offers mentorships to other young people with encouragement, advice and tools for success. Kristen is currently developing her own projects along with interviewing for other existing "amazing" programs as a producer. She talks about preparing her production binders and what goes into those; and offers tips for those aspiring to this type of role in the industry. Create relationships with mentors! "Do what makes your heart sing!" Both Kristen and I use Wizard of Oz analogies and speak about following one's Yellow Brick Road to Success. Along with Bree Frank, Shirley Vernae Williams and Gidean Moncrieffe, Kristen V. Carter works with Hue You Know, and their collective "ultimate goal is to lift the voices of our collective community in the world of media and beyond." Especially advocating for BIPOC populations, Hue You Know is a non-profit company that offers resources, connections and current information for those who work as freelancers in entertainment on camera and behind it. Vision: A transformed media industry committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion that remedies systemic inequalities. Kristen also hosts a podcast called "Hue Chats" on Sundays and Tuesdays.
