×I believe every one of us has been created for a unique purpose and has been called to make a positive and meaningful impact with our lives. The key question is: Will you accept the invitation and answer the call? We are extending our podcast series entitled “It’s Not About You.” In this podcast episode, I share some thoughts about one of the greatest invitations you can choose to accept, answer, and embrace in order to make the most of your moments in life. Show Notes: What is Your Calling: Sweet spot of passion and purpose Purpose: Your Why; Calling: How and What A role you play in the eternal story that is going on. An impact you were set apart for. An invitation to make a positive difference with your life. A mindset that transcends and permeates everything you do and every area of your life. A calling is not tied to or limited by your job title or current role you play in life. A moment you must embrace. Every day, you have a choice to make life all about you or to connect your life to an eternal story and make a positive and transformational impact in the lives of other people. We are in the middle of a series entitled “It’s Not About You.” In this episode, I share a third “I” word of Impact and offer 3 principles you can use to make a positive impact in sports, business, and life. Show Notes: “Sociologists have found that even the most introverted person will impact and influence 10,000 people in their lifetime.” John Maxwell While influence may be tied more to to character development and foundational beliefs and principles, impact has more to do with the choices and decisions that you make. Being a leader is where we make a positive impact within our sphere of influence and fulfill our calling. To make an impact, I must personally act. 3 Principles for Making a Positive Impact: Be Aware Look for people who need what you have. “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” – Frederick Buechner Key Insight: Being aware is where we begin to discover our calling. Be Present and Engaged “The legacy you live is the legacy you leave.” – Ken Blanchard Bring yourself – the person God created you to be – to the story! Don’t try to be someone else, and don’t sit on the sidelines hoping someone else will step up. Be Active Leadership is ultimately about influence and using the platform and opportunities that you have for God’s glory! Know and play your role. Consider the following passage from my friend Louie Giglio’s book I Am Not But I Know I AM: “It’s a place that requires a constant choice. We can choose to cling to starring roles in the little-bitty stories of us, or we can exchange our fleeting moment in the spotlight for a supporting role in the eternally beautiful epic that is the Story of God. Think of it as trading up. Abandoning the former and embracing the latter will allow our little lives to be filled with the wonder of God as we live for His fame and the unending applause of His name. And joining our small stories to His will give us what we all want most in life anyway: the assurance that our brief moments on earth count for something in a story that never ends.” Isaiah 26:8 – “YES, LORD, WALKING IN THE WAY OF YOUR TRUTH, WE WAIT EAGERLY FOR YOU, FOR YOUR NAME AND YOUR RENOWN ARE THE DESIRE OF OUR SOULS.” New Episodes of the Monday Morning Moments Podcast are released every Monday on your favorite podcast platforms as well as on YouTube. This is the second podcast episode in our series entitled, “It’s Not About You.” Every one of us has the power to influence others either positively or negatively, and we can allow ourselves to be influenced in the same way. In this episode of Monday Morning Moments, I share the second “I” word of Influence and discuss 2 different ways to think about influence in terms of our Circle of Influence (the people who are influencing us) and our sphere of influence (the people who we are influencing). I also offer some key questions for you to ponder and proactively take action steps toward in order to leverage your influence in the best way and not make life just about you. Show Notes: Definition of Influence: “the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something” 3-12-120 (Andy Crouch) Circle of Influence: the people who influence you Key Questions: Who is in your circle of influence? Do you have the right people in that circle? How are they influencing you and are you leveraging their insight, wisdom, and guidance? What kind of feedback are you giving to the people you lead and influence? Is it helping them to grow and get better? In today's podcast episode of Monday Morning Moments, we are continuing our series about the habits of great leaders. Today's podcast focuses on how great leaders give great feedback. In this episode, I share 5 ways that you can give great feedback to the people that you lead and influence. These are great principles whether you are a coach focusing on getting the best out of your players, a business leader helping others to maximize their potential, or a leader at home serving and investing in the needs of your family. Show Notes:Great leaders give great feedback. What is great feedback?Feedback that helps someone else become who they were created to be and deliver their best confidently and consistently.Great feedback is specific, timely, and relevantGreat feedback must always be aligned with the other person’s potential to be (Warren Bennis).Great feedback balances positive and constructive feedback, not criticism which literally means to tear down and not build up.As Chris Miller, a program director at UNC Executive Development, writes in his white paper, “Expectations Create Outcomes: Growth Mindsets in Organizations”: “managers with fixed mindsets often fail to recognize positive changes in employee performance. They are also less likely to coach employees about how to improve performance or to offer constructive feedback…This leads to a loss of talent in organizations.”Focus on at least a 3-1 ratio and work to get to a 5-1 ratio.Great feedback recognizes contribution and achievement. Process and outcomes. Growth and achievements.Great feedback should help your team play with belief, trust, and confidence on “game day.” That’s the art of leadership.Key Questions:- What kind of feedback are you giving, and is it helping your team develop and become their best? We are starting a new series on JOY. Over the years, I have spoken to many groups, teams, and businesses about the power of "playing with joy." Also, in my book Moments: Making Your Life Count For What Matters Most, Enjoy the Moment is one of the key principles for making the most of your moments and being fully engaged and present in life.As we kick off this series, I think it is very important to know your enemy, or the thing or person that is trying to steal your joy. It is also important to know how we contribute to outside forces that try to steal our joy by choosing to focus on the wrong things. Specifically, I think there are at least 2 major things that try to steal your joy. The hope for today is that these 2 things are within our control, and we have a choice whether we will be controlled by these forces or conquer them to unleash our best performance in sports, business, and life!
