Growing up in a military family, Tristen Epps moved around a lot. But no matter where he was living, Friday nights were sacred. He got to dress up, go to a restaurant, not order from a kids menu, and feel like he was getting to know the place he was living — for now. At home, when his mom taught him to scramble an egg, he was mesmerized by the alchemy; one simple ingredient could transform into so many things. It's that wonder and curiosity that transformed him into the leader, visionary, and Top Chef winner he is today. He joined Tinfoil Swans at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen to talk about his mission to “un-colonize colonized food,” the freedom he feels cooking in Air Jordans, why it's important to him to celebrate oxtails with Michelin-level finesse, and his belief that cooking has power to correct history. 1 Pogačar could be the 'best ever', but nobody can outrace cycling's past | Le Tour to remember for Ben Healy | Barry Ryan & Ciaran Lennon 46:08
It was a memorable staging of the Tour de France from an Irish perspective thanks to Ben Healy’s standout performance: stage win, yellow jersey, most aggressive rider, and a 9th-place finish overall. But while the race delivered drama, Tadej Pogačar’s dominance raised familiar questions. Four wins in six years and staggering performances, but wider echoes of cycling’s past linger. We explore the legacy of doping, the latest Team Ineos controversy, and Pogacar’s place in history with Ciaran Lennon and Barry Ryan. 30 years ago this month, Wayne McCullough took the road less travelled, and took home the world title. The Belfast native dethroned Nagoya’s local champion Yasuei Yakushiji in front of a partisan Japanese crowd, capturing the feted WBC belt he'd spent a childhood dreaming of during The Troubles. That win in July '95 came off the back of a decorated amateur career which spanned two Olympics. Indeed, after what proved to be his much-publicised decision to carry the Irish tricolour in Seoul, he secured a stunning silver medal at the Barcelona games.By the end of that decade, he was in the midst of a run of box-office world title fights as a pro, headlining shows either side of the Atlantic. Wayne was in with the best, on the biggest stages. Around the height of his career, however, he suffered a serious mental health crisis, at one point attempting to take his own life. Later in this podcast, he speaks with great candour about difficulties he faced at that time, the descriptions of which may not be suitable for some listeners. For anyone affected, Samaritans’ freephone number is 116 123; they are contactable day and night. Ultimately though, and as you'll hear, Wayne’s is a most unique story of triumph through adversity, and one which we mark on today's episode of Indo Sport 🎧 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.…
Joe is joined by Rachel O'Sullivan and Miguel Delaney to look ahead to the Women's Euros final between England and Spain and assess the tournament as a whole. Despite reaching another major final, Miguel isn't convinced by England but Rachel thinks criticism directed at their manager Sarina Wiegman is unfair. Joe is taken by Spain's style of football while the panel are in agreement that the tournament is going from strength to strength. Daniel McDonnell (still jacketless) joins Joe and Will for a Thursday Bits & Bobs with plenty of your emails to discuss, including drinking wine at Centre Court, and the return of pedantic corner (now in E-Paper form). On the chopping block is where Shelbourne now sit in their race for European qualification, whether Duff’s exit has taken steam away from the league, and what impact more European money could have on a potential beast in Shamrock Rovers. The news that the Irish women’s basketball team have been drawn in the same group of Israel also sparks discussion around how sports organisations should take a stand.
