Healy E. Ikerd is a mother, author and licensed professional counselor. Her book "Changing Your Feelings". The title is self-explanatory, but the application is not so always so simple. The way that anxiety--excessive thoughts or worry--can manifest itself in physical symptoms and limiting mindsets, becoming like a weed in a garden if not handled swiftly and correctly.
Usually, anxiety is rooted in a legitimate fear that something difficult or traumatic might happen.
Identify the root if your triggers and avoidances. Are your feelings warranted given the context of the situation? Healy asserts that the only way to handle anxiety is to face exactly what you are afraid of in healthy doses of exposure.
As a Christian practice, Healy encourages any person dealing with anxiety to turn to the Word of God as their anchor to replace the detrimental lies of anxiety with the empowering truth of God. When you cling to scripture, you need to understand what the scripture means and then personalize it to your moment of crisis.
