Olson is the Director of Chicago Studies at the Newberry library and has taught at the University of Chicago, received fellowships from the National Endowment the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the Newberry Library. Olson's first book Modernism and the Ordinary was published by Oxford University Press in 2009.
