Faut-il autoriser les tests ADN récréatifs en France ?

Dans les années 2000 sont apparus des tests génétiques, que l’on fait volontairement pour en savoir plus sur nos origines et sur nos liens de parenté. En France, on appelle ça des tests “récréatifs”, c’est-à-dire “pour s’amuser”. Des kits de prélèvement de salive sont vendus aux personnes intéressées. Elles renvoient ensuite le prélèvement à une entreprise qui l’analyse pour en tirer des informations sur leur patrimoine génétique. Ces kits ont connu un très grand succès aux États-Unis puis en Europe, mais en France, ils sont interdits depuis le début. Fin 2023, la loi s’est encore durcie : désormais les entreprises qui vendent ces tests n’ont plus le droit de les envoyer sur le territoire français.

Alors est-ce que la loi française a raison ou faut-il autoriser les tests ADN récréatifs en France ?

Should recreational DNA testing be authorized in France?

The 2000s saw the emergence of genetic tests, which people take voluntarily to find out more about their origins and parentage. In France, we call these tests “récréatifs”, meaning “for fun”. Saliva sampling kits are sold to those who want to take the test. They then send the sample to a company which analyzes it to obtain information about their genetic heritage. These kits were very successful in the United States and then in Europe, but in France they have been banned from the outset. At the end of 2023, the law became even tougher: from now on, companies selling these tests are no longer allowed to send them into France.

So is French law right, or should "recreational" DNA testing be allowed in France?
