The city of Zagreb is following ambitious plans to adapt to climate change and implement sustainable infrastructure, plans which have been pushed for strongly by the current administration. Something that is evident in a large construction project of a cultural center, called Paromlin, directly next to the main train station, which will become the cities first building that will be sustainable and climate change resistance in its entirety. For almost four years now, the green-left Možemo!, so it's hardly a surprise that these issues have become a larger issue in city politics. For the planning and technical implementation of projects in this area, there is a special agency, called REGEA for the city of Zagreb and the region. Originally set up as an energy agency 16 years ago, they established a climate change adaptation department three years ago, which now encompasses 50 people that support cities and regions in implementing projects based on expert knowledge. REGEA takes on a supportive role, providing consultations on energy and climate aspects during strategic planning. Radio Corax spoke with Miljenko Sedlar, Head of the climate department of REGEA about the scope of their work as well as the challenges of implementing sustainability and climate change adaptation throughout the city.
