Mike Elfenbein: Protecting Big Cypress

Today we’re sitting down with Mike Elfenbein, an incredibly dedicated advocate for wild Florida. Born and raised in Miami, Mike now resides on Florida's southwest coast where he actively engages in all sorts of advocacy with the Cypress Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, where he serves as the executive director.

Mike’s conservation journey started in the fishing industry and evolved after a pivotal invitation to go hunt in Big Cypress as a kid. Now, his passion for wildlife conservation is highlighted by his desire to show people the places and provide similar opportunities and invitations he was given.

“My mission is to protect the Big Cypress National Preserve and everything connected to her.”

Mike’s previous leadership positions include serving on the board and as executive director of the Fishing and Conservation Trust and as a delegate for the Everglades Coordinating Council.

Additionally, he contributes to the Future of Hunting in Florida board and various Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advisory groups. An avid outdoorsman, Mike spends his free time exploring Florida’s wilderness with his family.
