Join Kim and her sister Talia as they honor Women's History Month by celebrating the influential women in their lives.
Each year, March is officially designated as Women’s History Month through presidential proclamation, dedicated to commemorating the significant contributions of women in American history.
Fun Fact: Women’s History Month originally began as Women’s History Week...
The inception of Women’s History Month traces back to a local initiative in Santa Rosa, California. In 1978, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women organized the first-ever "Women’s History Week." This celebration, aligned with International Women’s Day on March 8, gained momentum across the nation, inspiring other communities to host their own Women’s History Week events the subsequent year.
In 1980, a coalition of women’s organizations and historians, spearheaded by the National Women’s History Project (now the National Women's History Alliance), successfully advocated for national recognition. In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the inaugural Presidential Proclamation, establishing the Week of March 8th, 1980, as National Women’s History Week.
