The early Christians at a very great cost, would gather on the Lord’s day, the 8th day, Sunday for public worship. Charges of being a Christian carried significant risk. Torture was considered a good method of extracting information. If home liturgy was sufficient, it would have been safer for all to remain hidden at home. But such was not the case. (Justin Martyr gives the earlies complete account of the liturgy[1]

Domestic church Just as the early Christians held their religious services in house churches, so to the Christian home was described by Vatican II as a domestic church, where parents teach their children Christian virtues by living the Gospel message on a daily basis.[3] CCC #1655-1658
