Rumors are now swirling that Donald Trump is going to replace his embattled Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth with someone that Republicans can't help but get confirmed - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Unlike Hegseth, DeSantis has military experience and is generally well-liked by conservatives (though not enough to save him during the Republican primary.) DeSantis will also go to war with "woke" in the military, something that Republicans have been crying about for years.
Republicans are at each other's throats once again, with Marjorie Taylor Greene still feuding with right wing provocateur Laura Loomer. It started up again this week when Greene suggested that Trump should give her (Greene) and others a "blanket pardon" just like President Biden gave his son. This prompted Loomer to speculate that Greene may be admitting to committing crimes during her time in office.
Rudy Giuliani missed a court-ordered deadline to respond to a contempt complaint this week, and he is likely going to face serious consequences as a result of this. The judge has already lost his patience repeatedly with Giuliani through these proceedings, and he even had to remind him that his history as a lawyer means he knows how these things work. That warning alone, which came about a week ago, means that the judge will have no sympathies for the former mayor.
Mitch McConnell is absolutely FURIOUS that he and Donald Trump won't be able to pack the courts the way that they want to because several Democratic judges have decided to postpone their retirement to prevent Trump from taking their seats. In a speech on the Senate floor, McConnell cried foul and said that these Democratic judges weren't playing by the rules, and he made these comments without even a hint of irony about the fact that he, personally, stole a Supreme Court seat from President Obama.
