New study in JACC compares fixed vs age-adjusted NT-proBNP cutoffs for defining pre–heart failure (Pre-HF) in over 22,000 adults across ARIC, MESA, and CHS cohorts.
📉 Key Insight: Age-adjusted cutoffs reduce overdiagnosis in older adults 🧓 and improve risk prediction for heart failure hospitalization 🏥.
📊 With better C-statistics, NRI, IDI, and a lower number needed to screen, the age-specific approach proves more precise—especially in those ≥75 years.
