Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a type of anxiety disorder , can happen after a deeply threatening or scary event. Even if you weren't directly involved, the shock of what happened can be so great that you have a hard time living a normal life. People with PTSD can have insomnia , flashbacks, low self-esteem, and a lot of painful or unpleasant emotions. They might constantly relive the event and have a tough time at work or engaging in social activities and may end up with Major Depression, Substance Use, or OCD. Women, in general-- and especially those with mental disorders-- have been discriminated against and stigmatized worldwide throughout history. FACTS Approximately 12 million women in the United States experience clinical depression each year. About one in every eight women can expect to develop clinical depression during their lifetime. Depression occurs most frequently in women aged 25 to 44. FACTORS Many factors in women may contribute to depression, such as developmental, reproductive, hormonal, genetic and other biological differences (e.g. premenstrual syndrome, childbirth, infertility, and menopause). Social factors may also lead to higher rates of clinical depression among women, including stress from work, family responsibilities, the roles and expectations of women, and increased rates of sexual abuse and poverty. https://www.mhanational.org/depression-women…
Per John Hopkins Medical Center, many of the warning signs of possible suicidal feelings are also signs of depression. Observations of the following behaviors may be helpful in identifying people who may be at risk of attempting suicide: Changes in eating and sleep habits Loss of interest in usual activities Pulling away from friends and family members Acting out behaviors and running away Alcohol and drug use Not caring about personal appearance Unnecessary risk-taking Fixation on death and dying Increased physical complaints are often connected to emotional distress, like stomachaches, headaches, and extreme tiredness Loss of interest in work, school, and community Feelings of boredom Trouble concentrating Feelings of wanting to die Lack of response to praise Shows signs of plans or efforts toward plans to commit suicide, including the following: Says "I want to kill myself," or "I'm going to commit suicide."
