"The Danger of External Religion" (Luke 11:37-54) November 03, 2024
Manage episode 449300356 series 3497757
In Luke 12:1-12, Jesus warns His disciples and followers to avoid the “leaven of the Pharisees,” meaning their hypocrisy. He emphasizes that hidden things will be revealed, and secret words will be brought to light. Jesus encourages His listeners to have a healthy fear of God rather than fear of human judgment, as only God has authority over the eternal soul.
He reassures them of God's love and care, explaining that God knows even the number of hairs on their heads. Jesus also emphasizes the importance of acknowledging Him publicly, for those who confess Him before others will be acknowledged by Him before God and the angels. Finally, He assures them that the Holy Spirit will provide wisdom and words in times of persecution.
This passage teaches about the dangers of hypocrisy, the fear of God versus the fear of man, the value of each individual to God, and relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance.
