This week's sermon, "The Confidence of the Called," tackles the challenge of living confidently as Christians, even when fear and doubt threaten to hold us back. Pastor Alex encourages us to remember that God doesn't want us to be timid or shrink back from the plans He has for our lives. He's equipped each of us with unique gifts and a calling to make a difference in the world. So, how can we cultivate this confidence? The sermon outlines three key practices: 1. Self-Discipline: Just like the prophet Daniel, whose unwavering prayer life even in the face of danger demonstrates the power of a disciplined spirit, we need to prioritize our time with God. Spending time in His presence, reading His Word, and listening to His voice strengthens our relationship with Him and helps us to discern His will. 2. Love: Specifically, God's agape love, which is unconditional, sacrificial, and selfless. This perfect love casts out all fear. When we truly grasp the depth of His love for us, we find security and boldness to step out in faith, knowing He's always with us. 3. Power: The sermon reminds us that we have the Holy Spirit living within us, empowering us with supernatural strength. This "dynamis" power isn't something we earn, but a gift that enables us to face challenges with courage. Remember Jeremiah, who initially doubted his ability to be a prophet? God reassured him, reminding him that he had equipped him for the task. We too can trust that God will never give us anything we can't handle. One powerful example of stepping out in faith despite fear is the recent baptisms in our church. These individuals boldly declared their commitment to Christ, showing that confidence isn't self-generated, but Spirit-empowered. The sermon concludes with a call to action: What scary thing will you chase in 2025? What area of your life is God calling you to step out in faith? Remember, "Fear not" is a message repeated throughout Scripture. God desires for us to live each day in trust and courage, knowing that He is with us every step of the way. Let's be a people who boldly live out our purpose, loving God, sharing His love, and influencing the world for Jesus!
